Good evening, Waters Landing family,
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Please find links above to a video about Hispanic Heritage month, the National Museum of the American Latino's virtual exhibits, a read aloud about the Latina artist Frida Kahlo and a link to a video where Disney channel actors share about their Latino heritage.
Thank you to the PTA Book Fair committee and all of the families who volunteered to keep our Book Fair open for students last week. We appreciate you. Thank you to the community for supporting this PTA fundraiser.
October is National Bully Prevention Month. Please talk to your student(s) about the importance of letting an adult know if they experience or see another student being bullied. There are two videos linked above to help with that message. It is our goal that all students are respectful, responsible and safe at WLES.
We will engage in a Drop, Cover and Hold On drill on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Here is the video students have watched about Drop, Cover and Hold. This video also includes information on evacuation and shelter. If you have any questions about emergency drills, please let us know. Tuesday is also individual Picture Day. Flyers went home with students last week.
There has been a change to arrival for our 5th Grade students. They will line up on the sidewalk, outside of the door where car riders exit at dismissal. This is the door at the end of the building by the fields. There is an adult by this door starting at 9:05a.m. When the bell rings at 9:10a.m., 5th Grade students will enter this door and go up the staircase or down the hallway to their classrooms. This change was made due to the large number of students lining up at the middle door playing around instead of waiting in line to enter the building.
We are starting an After School STEM Club through Whiz Kid Academy for students at every grade level. There has been a date change. The first class will meet on 10/16/23. Please click on the flyers below to register.
Have a marvelous week!
With Dolphin pride,
Mrs. Hammond, Principal
Mrs. Nelson, Assistant Principal
Mr. Kim, Assistant School Administrator
