Principal's Message
Greetings Springwater Students and Families,
Today marks the final school day of 2021! Thank you to each and every one of you for your energy, your resilience, your patience, and your commitment to navigating this challenging year. I am so thankful for our Springwater community: students, families, and staff.
We have had a busy but wonderful week which included an energizing World Music performance Tuesday evening and a successful, fun winter social last night. We look forward to more fun in 2022!
As you most likely have heard, there continue to be social media posts (national and local) containing threats to schools. If you have not seen the GBSD statement released yesterday, I encourage you to take a moment to read it. While we are fortunate at Springwater to steer clear of much of this drama, we are seeing an increase in personal conflicts between students. For the most part, students are doing an exceptional job following Springwater guidance regarding conflicts with others: they are ignoring/moving on from the issue; addressing the issue in a positive, proactive, private way with the other person; or seeking out help from staff to resolve the issue. My expectation for all students is that they continue to follow this guidance.
Springwater will always communicate and follow up with our community regarding any specific threat to our school. We will also choose to not amplify or give additional power to those who are hoping to magnify their online actions in an effort to stoke fear, gain attention, or disrupt schools across the country. Please reach out to us if you have concerns or questions.
I hope everyone has a restful and safe winter break. I look forward to welcoming all of our students back in January! Take care and be well.

December Spotlight Students
Jessica Valentin Zamora
Grade: 9
Interests: Play video games (racing games) and collect rocks
Favorite subject in school: Spanish. It’s good to learn different languages and more about Spanish history.
Favorite thing about STHS: Everyone is kind here and the classrooms are really good.
Edwin Lopez-Silva
I want to go to college. I want to be a graphic designer and design video games.
Grade: 10
Interests: I like to go outside. I like to do lots of crafts, especially cardboard projects.
Favorite subject in school: PE because it’s fun; Math- I used to be bad at math in middle school, but I got better; and English because of the teacher.
Favorite thing about STHS: The students here. It’s a pretty small school, so you know everybody. Let’s say you go to a bigger school, you wouldn’t know most of the seniors or juniors, however, at Springwater you know most of the students because it’s so small.
Shade Teems
Grade: 11
Interests: A lot of my interests fluctuate, but as of late I have really been into gothic rock and exploring different fashions. Also, I’ve slowly been getting into mushrooms. I might start looking into those and bees.
Favorite subject in school: Either English and Science. They’ve both been very easy for me to understand. In science, I’ve always excelled. Although I’ve had my troubles with English, I’ve always enjoyed the teachers I’ve had.
Favorite thing about STHS: Since it’s so small, you can be more open about things. If I went to a bigger school like Barlow, I probably wouldn’t be able to be as open about who I am as a person and be able to connect with as many people.
Food Drive - Thank You
All donations are used to support families within the STHS community.
Legacy Health Vaccine Clinics at EGES and NGES
Springwater Trail High School would like to provide as much information as possible on opportunities for our students and their families to receive the COVID-19 vaccination should they choose to do so.
Legacy Health will be holding COVID-19 vaccine clinics at North Gresham and East Gresham Elementary Schools during December and January.
See the flyer below for details.
TEST TO STAY and TEST TO RETURN
Over the course of the year many families have been affected by both a positive Covid case with their student or having to quarantine their student due to an exposure. For students who are fully vaccinated there has been no need to quarantine due to exposure, which has enabled them to continue to attend school without breaks. Fortunately we are now able to implement the use of Covid testing to either completely eliminate the need to quarantine OR to return sooner based on the type of exposure.
There are two protocols that will be used based on the manner in which your student has been exposed. Location Matters. Please see details below:
- Test to Stay: This protocol is used when a student is exposed at school where masking and social distancing are being utilized. For example, in a classroom exposure (please note that this does not apply to athletics or activities where students are participating without masks). If a student is exposed, they will test two times within 3-7 days of exposure. If the test is negative, and they are not showing symptoms, they may Stay in school.
- Test to Return: This protocol is used when a student is exposed in the community or while participating in athletics or activities when the wearing of masks can't be guaranteed. In this case, the quarantine time can be reduced to 7 days (rather than 10). If the Covid tests show they are negative, and they are not showing symptoms, they may Return to school.
- Please see the Images Below for graphical descriptions.
The Test to Stay program will begin in the Gresham-Barlow Schools right after Winter Break and students must have a permission form on file to participate. If you would like your student to be eligible for the program, please turn in a signed permission form to the office. If the exposure occurs at school, testing will be provided at no charge to families. We are looking forward to maintaining access to in-person learning when Covid-19 exposures occur in our school!
