UPK-4 Information
Start of the Year:
On September 8, we ended our week with a building assembly. During that time, our classes were able to gather, learn grade level chants, review our school wide behavior expectations and then end with a group photo. Each grade level is denoted a color. There may be times when myself or teachers send home a communication for students to wear their grade level colors (optional).
- UPK - Red
- Kindergarten - Orange
- First Grade - Yellow
- Second Grade - Green
- Third Grade - Blue
- Fourth Grade - Purple
iReady Diagnostic Testing: During the first two weeks of school, classroom teachers will begin assessing students utilizing the iReady Diagnostic. Students will spend approximately 45 minutes per subject, reading and mathematics, to complete these assessments. The results will be analyzed and then used to guide instruction and interventions for students.
Elementary Open House: We look forward to welcoming families to Open House from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28th at Avon Elementary School. During this time parents will be able to visit classrooms. Your involvement as a parent or guardian in your child’s education is key to our success, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Lost and Found: We are starting to see our lost and found pile grow larger. Please consider labeling your child’s lunch boxes, water bottles, and clothing with their name. If lost, we can return items to students easily if it has their name on it.
Grades 5-8 Information
Grade Level Meetings: During the first two weeks of school, student grade level presentations were held in the district auditorium. Mrs. Grasso (Grades 5 and 6 School Counselor), Mrs. Kyle (Behavior Specialist), Ms. Panella (School Psychologist), Mrs. Resch (Grades 7 and 8 School Counselor), and Mrs. Miller presented tips for success and the core values (responsibility and integrity, kindness and gratitude, perseverance, and respect) for the middle school that will be fostered throughout the school year. Information on safety and security procedures, the ACS Code of Conduct, and DASA (information and reporting process) were also communicated to students.
iReady (First Benchmark Administration): During the first two weeks of school, teachers administered the first iReady diagnostic in the areas of reading and math to students in grades 5 through 8. Teachers will use information from these diagnostic assessments to guide instruction and design interventions for students. If you have any questions or concerns about the i-Ready diagnostic testing, please contact your child’s ELA or math teacher.
Avon Up Day (9/15/23: The first career exploration day was delivered on Friday, September 15th. During science classes, a Naviance Career Interest Survey was administered to students in grade 5-8. In math classes, teachers delivered a character trait/value lesson on “responsibility” and in social studies classes teachers implemented a U.S. Constitution lesson. Since it was “Picture Day” in the middle school, ELA classes provided direct instruction in regard to hallway expectations and then provided guided practice by escorting students to the auditorium to be photographed. Lastly, LOTE teachers will spend time reviewing the Learner Behavior Rubric that is used to evaluate a student’s responsibility, active involvement, and effort in a course. This rating is part of our ten week reporting process where students receive a grade for the course they are enrolled in at school. Report Card Rubric
Open House Information: The Middle School Open House (Grades 6-8) is scheduled for Thursday, September 21st. The evening will begin in the auditorium with grade level presentations by the teachers. Following grade level presentation, students and their families will then visit classrooms. Grade level presentations and classroom visitations in the district auditorium are as follows:
- 6th Grade Presentation: 6:00-6:20 pm
- 7th Grade Presentation: 6:30-6:50 pm
- 8th Grade Presentation: 7:00-7:20 pm
Depending on the time of each grade level presentation, students and their families will have time (before or after presentations) to visit grade level classrooms. Pizza, cookies, and water will also be served in the cafeteria from 6:30 until 7:30 pm. Your involvement as a parent or guardian in your child’s education is key to our success, and we look forward to your participation.
Students and staff welcomed the new school year by taking photographs in front of these beautiful welcome back to school balloon decorations. Thank you Maria Cox (ACS Custodian and Resident of the Avon Community) for providing these beautiful balloon decorations for our school community.
Grades 9-12 Information
- Start of the Year: On Friday, September 8th, we held class presentations for grades 10, 11, and 12. Ninth grade received their presentation at orientation over the summer. During the presentations, we discussed strategies and tips to be successful in high school, the counseling department went over important information for each grade level and the benefits of earning college credits in high school, and we talked about the elements of a positive school culture, safety and security, and the code of conduct. Students received a lot of important information. They were engaged and asked good questions throughout the presentations. We finished the week with class meetings and fudgesicle Friday!
- Attendance: Being on time and present is the most significant indicator for student success. Students should be in their first class by 7:50am. So far, students have been doing a great job! Our attendance team has been monitoring this daily and has been addressing students who are tardy or have unexcused absences. Our code of conduct and extracurricular code of conduct outlines specific responses to tardiness and absenteeism that we follow when needed. Being in school on time every day will help set students up for success. Thank you for your support!
- Open House Information: Open House is on Thursday, September 21st from 6:30 to 8:00pm for grades 9-12. During this time, parents will be able to move freely throughout the building to connect with teachers in their classrooms. Pizza, cookies, and water will be served in the cafeteria from 6:30-7:30 pm until we run out. Your involvement as a parent or guardian in your child’s education is key to our success, and we look forward to your participation.
