November 13/13 de Noviembre del 2023
Message from the Principal
Dear Hilhi Families,
Quarter one is finished! Your students worked hard to finish the term, and teachers spent a lot of time grading their work. Grades are now available for viewing in ParentVue and StudentVue. We will not be mailing paper copies home, but if you need help accessing your child's grades, please give us a call or come to parent conferences.
Next week we are looking forward to connecting with you at parent conferences. You have multiple opportunities to meet with teachers and hear about your child's progress:
- Monday, November 20, from 4:30-8:00 in person in the Cafeteria/Commons - no appointment needed. All teachers will be available for individual meetings.
- Tuesday, November 21, 8:00am-6:00pm - make an in person or virtual appointment with individual teachers (see individual messages for scheduling links)
- Tuesday, November 21, 6:00-8:00 - targeted families will be invited to meet with all of their child's teachers, either in person or virtually. Teachers will also use this time to reach out to families who have yet to connect.
Partnering with families is a key strategy for student success. Please take time to review your student's grades and connect with teachers as needed. We look forward to partnering with you!
Winter sports begin practice today! Soon we'll be cheering our on our swimmers, wrestlers and basketball players. If your child is interested in one of these sports, please have them stop by the athletic office as soon as possible to get details. Go Sparts!
I look forward to seeing many of you next week at fall conferences.
My Best,
Cary Meier
Principal

9th grade support
HHS 9th Grade Level Team meets weekly to focus primarily on attendance and students’ individual barriers to improve their attendance to school and their classes. We follow the guidelines and research from the Chicago University to support our students to stay On Track for their High School Graduation since their Freshman year. Here is an interesting article on this topic: Why does attendance matter in High School?
If your student will be absent due to illness, a medical appointment, or any other reason, please call Mrs. Nuria Pence our attendance secretary or leave a message in our attendance line 503.844.1990.
Our 9th Grade Level Team is here to serve you and your students. If you have any questions or need support, please feel free to reach out to us!

Paying for College/Community College/Trade Schools - What is Financial Aid? When do I apply for Financial Aid this year?
Students and their families should complete either the FAFSA or ORSAA to be eligible for federal, state and college/university aid.
The Free Application for Student Aid or FAFSA is the form for US Citizens and Eligible Non Citizens. The completion of this form opens the opportunity for students and their families to receive financial aid from both the federal government and the state government along with college and university aid - This can be a great first step in paying for college - grants and work study.
The Oregon Student Aid Application or ORSAA is the form for Oregon residents who have undocumented status, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, and/or Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Though students will not be eligible for federal government aid (information from the ORSAA is not shared with the federal government), they are eligible for Oregon State aid and college and university aid.
Both student aid applications will open in December 2023. This is a change from the traditional October 1 opening. Both the FAFSA and ORSAA applications are going through an extensive revision to make the forms easier to complete (down to just over 40 questions from over 100 questions in previous years).
Students and families can register for accounts now (FAFSA registration ORSAA Registration) and be ready to apply in December
All students and their families considering education after high school (college, university, community college, trade schools) should fill out either the FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible when it opens in December.
Not sure which form to fill out for your situation? - check here
