Many classes are online (synchronous or asynchronous Zoom); in-person sections are offered during the day and evening. Most fall and spring semester classes are 13 weeks long, but some late start clases are shorter! Summer session classes are completed in 6 weeks at an accelerated pace.
Step 2: Apply to a Campus
Create an account with your personal email address on CCC & apply to the college that offers your preferred class..
You are enrolling in high school and college at the same time for Educational Development. You can select any major; if it's easier to select the same major as the class you are taking, that is fine.
TIP: When the form prompts you to add your mobile phone, do not include extra characters or spaces. Save your username and password so you can apply to future terms of community college as interested.
Complete a College Connection Form in your mySMCCD Student Portal. Click on the Student Success Link. Once in the Student Success Link section, click on the āMy Formsā tab to access the form.
To fill out the form, youāll need the following information:
- The Course Number (CRN) for the classes you plan to take.
- Your parent/guardianās email address ā weāll send them a separate email to approve your ability to take college classes while youāre still in high school.
- Your high school counselorās email address ā weāll send them a separate email to confirm your schoolās approval to take college courses while youāre still in high school.
- Within 48 hours of submitting your course request form--and English/math assessment request--log into your college portal and attempt to add the class [entering the CRN for your class in the Registration-Add window].
- If you cannot add the class, go see your school counselor to confirm that the form has been approved or see if your registration is pending due to a future registration date or assessment issue.

Access College Canvas Account & Rent Required Texts/Subscriptions
You are responsible for the cost of required materials (textbooks or online subscription accounts). Check the college bookstore website to find out what you need. You can shop around for textbooks at Amazon, Chegg, or Slugbooks as long as you use the exact same ISBN.
Class Not Working Out? Know the drop deadlines for your community college. If you aren't passing the class and do not want to have a D/F grade on a college transcript, you need to drop the class on your college account (SMCCD's WebSmart or FDA's MyPortal). Neither your high school nor a college counselor can drop the class for you.
