Click HERE for this week’s episode about kindergarten at SCS.

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MR. BRIAN WILSON, WELLNESS EDUCATION TEACHER AT SMS
Mr. Brian Wilson is currently in his 13th year with Strongsville City Schools. Mr. Wilson is a Wellness Education teacher at Strongsville Middle School. He has coached middle school basketball teams and still uses the sport to connect with parents and students. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Akron and he also earned a graduate degree from Emporia State University.
“I like being in the position to help improve our middle school students’ overall well being and using my own experiences to help guide them. I wouldn't have the ability to reach them without learning from my mentor teacher Chris Hassinger (Medina High School Health/Physical Education teacher) and my father Don Wilson who taught Health/Physical Education for 35 years,” said Mr. Wilson.
“Every day I walk into Strongsville Middle School, something different happens. I can honestly say my days are anything but boring. I have taught 6th and 7th grade Physical Education for the past three years at SMS and I am in a unique position to know just about every student in the building. I know who I am and what I do. As a result, it makes navigating situations, teaching, and helping to run activities easier knowing there is a certain level of respect given in the teacher/student dynamic. I enjoy being a mentor to many of our students. I am also a team leader which brings out a different side to me that I didn't know existed.”
Thank you Mr. Wilson for your passion about wellness and providing students with knowledge and instruction about healthy habits that they can use for a lifetime! #BeTheDifference

Baldwin Wallace Observatory Lecture (Friday, January 20)
Dr. Ralph Harvey, a professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Science at Case Western Reserve University, will present To Protect or Swerve: NASA's Planetary Defense Initiative and Meteorite Research, a lecture on NASA's plans and initiatives to protect Earth from a major asteroid impact on Friday, January 20 at 7:30pm. The free lecture is part of the Reinhold and Margaret Kader Memorial Astronomy Lecture Series at Baldwin Wallace University’s Kleist Center for Art & Drama, (95 East Bagley Road / Berea).
Planetary defense is the term used by NASA to encompass all the capabilities needed to detect the possibility and warn of potential asteroid or comet impacts with Earth, and then either prevent them or mitigate their possible effects. NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), which was developed to test the ability to impact an asteroid to adjust its speed and path, was launched in November of 2021 and successfully impacted the intended asteroid on September 26, 2022.
After Dr. Harvey’s lecture, the Burrell Observatory will be open for viewing, weather permitting. While the event is free, tickets are required – click HERE to reserve your tickets.
