Message from Mr. Kingery
Hello Art Rutkin Families,
We have had a great start to the 3rd quarter this week, and have some good news to share about PE classes. I am happy to officially announce that Holly Satterlee will be taking over as our PE teacher in a long-term substitute role through the end of the year. She has primarily supported early learning in kindergarten and 1st grade at Art Rutkin and serves as an on-call substitute for all elementary schools in TTSD. We are happy that she will be with us each day for PE in the mornings and classroom support each afternoon.
It's the Foundation's "Help Bridge the Gaps" Fund Drive time! Each school receives much needed funding to support additional staffing for reading and math instruction. Art Rutkin Elementary is using the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools’ funding for small group math support across grade levels. These funds provide student support during the school day that would not be possible otherwise. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the FTTS fund drive in the past and this year already!
I am happy to also announce that we have two staff being recognized for their exceptional service to students and in TTSD. Sheri Cach is the Art Rutkin Nutrition Services Assistant who runs our kitchen each day and is being recognized as the Nutrition Services classified staff member of the year. She does an amazing job preparing and serving delicious school meals to our students every day. We are also honoring Bill Ervin as the Art Rutkin Elementary classified staff member of the year. “Mr. Bill,” as he is referred to by students, is our Building Specialist who maintains our entire school campus everyday. Every student knows him and how important his job is to ensuring a clean, healthy and safe school campus for everyone. We are so grateful for Ms. Cach and Mr. Bill as part of this new school.
This is counselor appreciation week here at school. We are grateful that Mrs. Biggs, Art Rutkin Student Support Specialist, has counseling as part of her role. She knows every student and is focused on their social, emotional and academic success every school day. Happy School Counselors’ week Mrs. Biggs!
As you can see, we have had a lot to celebrate again this year. Thank you for all your support as the Art Rutkin Elementary School community continues into the second half of its first school year!
With Gratitude,
Mr. Kingery
Winter Walk + Roll Day was a success!
We had a great turnout for the Winker Walk + Roll to school day this week. 67% of our students participated! We look forward to an even bigger turnout in the spring! 🛴🚲🚶
Check out the News and Announcements section of our web page
As you have probably heard, TTSD's previous website platform, Blackboard K-12, has been acquired by Finalsite. As of January 31st, all TTSD websites have transitioned to the Finalsite platform.
One section of the webpage that I'd like to point out is what was formerly known as the spotlight section. This is where you could find upcoming events at a quick glance. This section is now called News and Announcements. Although only 3 events appear on the screen, you can click "view all" and everything listed will show.

TAG Message from Mrs. Reed
Greetings from your TAG specialists! Each month we are going to be doing a mini dive into one aspect of giftedness. We hope to provide you with helpful tips on how to make your gifted child feel most successful in and out of the classroom.
This month we are going to be looking at perfectionism. There are healthy and unhealthy behaviors gifted children may or may not demonstrate if they are a perfectionist (not all gifted students fall under the perfectionist category). Some positive behaviors include high levels of achievement, self-confidence, and/or motivation. However, unhealthy perfectionistic behaviors may include risk-avoidance, procrastination, and stress. When looking at the characteristics of gifted students, we want to support them in the best way possible. If you happen to have a gifted child who displays qualities of a perfectionist, the table below breaks down some of the profiles of perfectionists and some interventions that can be used to help them work through some of their unique barriers.
Medication Reminders
As we enter the cold and flu season, if your student needs any medication throughout the day please bring it to the office and fill out a medication form. This includes over the counter items such as cough drops.
Save the date! Twality Schools United Multicultural Festival
