A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Thomson Elementary Families,
Happy February! I trust this message finds you in good spirits. As we step into this new month, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to all our Thomson families. February is a time when our school community continues to flourish, and I am excited about the learning and growth opportunities that lie ahead.
Our dedicated team of educators is working diligently to create engaging lessons and meaningful experiences for your children. This February, we have a lineup of exciting events, including celebrations for Valentine's Day, where we'll share love and appreciation, 100's Day, a fun and educational milestone for our students, Fine Arts Night, a showcase of the creative talents within our school community, and Intersession II from February 19th to 22nd. Please note that there will be no school on the 23rd.
We encourage you to actively participate in your child's educational journey, attend school events, and connect with teachers to stay informed about these and other exciting activities planned for the month. Your involvement is crucial, and your support makes a significant impact on the success of our students.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children. Here's to a fantastic February filled with inspiration, collaboration, and success!

Scholastic Book Fair Update
We regret to inform you that, unfortunately, the Scholastic Book Fair scheduled for February will be canceled this year due to the current unavailability of a librarian in our school.
While we understand the importance and excitement that the Book Fair brings to our students and families, circumstances beyond our control have led to this decision. We want to assure you that we are actively working to address the situation and are in the process of hiring a librarian.
We appreciate your understanding and support during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to bringing back the Scholastic Book Fair in the future and creating more opportunities for our students to explore the joy of reading.
Thank you for your understanding.

Kindergarten Round-Up Appointments ๐โ๏ธ
Can you believe that it is already time to start thinking about next year?! We will begin taking appointments for Kindergarten Round-Up on Wednesday, February 28th. If you have a child or know someone with a child who will be in Kindergarten next year, please be sure to call our Thomson office and make an appointment at (810) 591-0911.
Kindergarten Round-Up for all Davison Elementary Buildings will take place at Thomson Elementary April 15th - 19th.
If you have younger children at home we wanted to make you aware that we are now starting the waiting list for Early-5's. Our Early 5's program is for children that will turn 5 between June 15th and December 1st. This is an excellent program to prepare young children for kindergarten. It is a full day program that focuses on kindergarten readiness. To add your child to the wait list please call the Thomson Elementary office at (810) 591-0911.
As a note, our current DK/Early 5 students do not need to make an appointment as your child(ren) are already completely enrolled as Davison students. As always, please do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions.
๐ฟโ๏ธ๐Dressing Warm for Recess!โ๏ธ๐งฃ๐งค
- boots
- snow pants
- hats
- gloves or mittens
Please write your child's name inside their winter gear. This helps prevent items getting lost at school. All students go outside every day unless the actual temperature or wind chill dips below zero degrees F.
Please help your child remember to bring their gear for recess every day. Some families choose to pack their gear in a separate bag from their backpack. I recommend working with your child to check their bag every night to make sure they have both gloves and boots, as well as the rest of the gear, in their bag. By getting it ready at night you'll have an easier time getting out the door in the morning. If your child is wearing their boots to school, please make sure to pack shoes to wear during the school day. It is also helpful when parents help their children learn to dress themselves in their winter gear. Our young students in particular can struggle with this and it takes practice. We appreciate your help!

Did You Know.....
We know parenting can be a challenge especially right now. Davison Community Schools has added a very good resource for parents to their website. ParentGuidance.org has video lessons for parents on a wide variety of topics. I am sharing a photo below of what the link looks like on the District website. It is listed under Quick Links on the left side of the opening page of the site. You can also access this site by clicking the link below.
๐๐๐ Birthday Celebrations!! ๐๐๐
Just a friendly reminder!
As part of our ongoing efforts to promote healthy and inclusive celebrations, we kindly request that non-edible items be considered for birthday celebrations in the classroom.
Opting for non-food items helps accommodate various dietary preferences and ensures the well-being of all our students. Popular alternatives include small stationery items, bookmarks, or classroom supplies.
We appreciate your understanding and support in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all our students.

Fun to Be Fit! โฝ๐๐
It has been a snowy and cold month for our Thomson Teddies! The students recently finished their bowling unit in late January. As we head into February please remember that tennis shoes are required to actively participate in class. This also helps with preventing injuries related to tripping. As we get closer to Valentine's Day, the students will engage in some theme based activities and even build snowmen made out of sport supplies. Please use your intersession time to get outside and build a real one for yourself! Remember a body in motion stays in motion.

STEM ๐ฅ๏ธ
Hello Thomson Families,
This month we are reading the book โTacky the Penguinโ in STEM class. The story is about a penguin who is unique and different from the other penguins. In the story Tacky saves his friends from getting captured by hunters by being different. After the story, the students will get to use their engineering skills with special STEM wooden blocks called Keva planks to build a hiding spot for their penguin.
Happy Engineering!
