TE PĀNUI O TE KURA O PUKETAPU
Term 3 2023
A new way for a new term
Rather than saving everything for one weekly roundup newsletter, we will be sharing events and news via our web site: www.puketapu.school.nz , public Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/puketapuschoolnp/ and Hero, as they happen.
We hope this means better timing, less repetition and less important events missed.
Sharing some of this news on our website and Facebook page means that our wider whānau, former students and community are still kept in the loop about all the great things happening at our school.
Using the Hero app, parents can still report absences, check learning, view reports, give permission for trips, book conference meeting times and much more. All major announcements come out via Hero anyway, now we will make sure news and updates come out to you this way as well.
This Term at School
Our learning theme this term is:
My Magnificent Machine
Our body is the most important machine we will ever have! How do we look after it? What fuel does it need to work most effectively? How do we keep it running well so it lasts us a long time? How is ours different from other animals?
In all classes, this theme will run through many topics, reading, writing, art, maths and science.
We will also be getting a visit from our friend Harold the Giraffe in the Life Education Bus!
Also this term, we will be learning about Matariki, training for our School Fun Run (Cross Country), our Year 7&8 students have interschool sports and our Kapa Haka competition group is working towards performing in the Tatarakihi Festival in September.
We look forward to sharing more of our learning with you throughout the term.

KA ORA, KA AKO-Healthy LUNCHES IN SCHOOL
We are so happy to be part of Ka Ora, Ka Ako, the Healthy School Lunches programme.
Free school lunches are provided for all students every day, including those with special dietary needs, made right here on site by our talented kitchen team.
The only food students need to bring from home are snacks for Break 2 and a drink bottle.
The two week menu for Term 3 is:
Odd Weeks:
Monday: Mac'n'Cheese
Tuesday: Meatball Subs
Wednesday: Mexican Wednesday (Nachos, Tacos, Quesadilla)
Thursday: Lasagne (Beef/Vege)
Friday: Burger Friday (Beef/Chicken/Vege)
Even Weeks:
Monday: Pizza
Tuesday: Meat & Gravy Day (Chicken & Mash/Beef/Pulled Pork/Wedges)
Wednesday: Curry Day (Chicken/Vege)
Thursday: Bread Day (Toasted Sandwich/Sandwiches/Panini)
Friday: Burger Friday (Beef/Chicken/Vege)
Most meals come with a snack (eg, trail mix, slice, muffin, carrot sticks with hummus, bliss balls, sweetcorn) and fruit. These are seasonal subject to availability.
There is some variation in the menu each week so we can take advantage of seasonal specials and provide a good variety of kai that our tamariki want to eat and enjoy.
Healthy Food and Drink
We are a WATER ONLY School.
Water is brain juice, so we like students to make sure they bring and drink lots of water.
Please don’t bring fizzy drinks or sugary drinks to school.
Lollies are also not usually allowed, unless you are bringing them to share with the whole class for a special treat or celebration, but you must ask the teacher first.
Kapa Haka
Kapa Haka is every Wednesday, in our school hall, including juniors, non-competitive participants and our competition team.
Former student and teacher Matua Phil Hoskin leads our learning in Kapa Haka.
Our Competition team is working towards performing at the Tātarakihi Festival in September.
breakfast Club
Our Kick Start Breakfast Club serves free breakfast in the Design Techology room every morning, from 8.30am-8.55am.
All welcome!
Our Concerns Pathway
There may be times when you have a query or concern about your child.
Open communication is a priority - we encourage family to please, come talk with us.
The Concerns Pathway is important to follow as you will generally be speaking to the person who has the most information and knowledge about your child and others in your child's environments.
We will do our best to work together for manageable solutions.
Making an Appointment
Classroom teachers are busy and working hard to give all children quality learning time.
Should you need to discuss an issue, please make a time to meet, either before 8.30am or after 3pm, so the teacher can give you the attention you need and deserve.
before and after school care
We are delighted that tamariki at Puketapu School have the option for before and after school care, provided by Good Seed Trust and based at Northpoint Church.
For more information please contact Aioi on info@goodseedtrust.co.nz
Or enrol your child at
home & School
Our wonderful Puketapu Home and School is a group of parents and family members who help fundraise for the school, organise fun events and help look out for people in our community who need a little extra support. Some fundraisers/events to look out for are our annual golf day, art calendars and Christmas raffles.
Home and School meet twice a term, at school and all are welcome to come bring their ideas and offer help when they can.
This term the meetings are:
- Thursday 27 July, 6.30pm, in the school staffroom
- Monday 28 August, 6.30pm, in the school staffroom
We would love to see you there!
