BCS District Update -

It was great to see so many of you at our Open Houses on August 17th! Thank you for taking the time to come to the buildings to help your child with their back to school transition.

At their Regular Meeting on July 24, 2023, Bronson's Board of Education approved a Sinking Fund Resolution which includes ballot language for the renewal of the current sinking fund for voters to consider on the November ballot. The proposed renewal would renew the sinking fund at the current Tax Rate (1.9766 mills) to generate approximately $460,000/year, if collected.

Be on the lookout for additional information pertaining to this proposal.

School Messenger is the system we use to send out phone, email, and/or text messages to our students, families and staff. These are often referred to in our district as "robo calls".

Please know that these most often will come outside of the regular school day/school hours. If you receive a call or have a missed call from a BCS number during this time of day, please wait to see if there is a voicemail that is left (School Messenger will leave a recording of the message) before you try returning the call.

Bronson Community Schools is utilizing COVID relief funds (supplementing with general fund dollars) to improve air quality/HVAC systems at Bronson Jr/Sr High School.

As you can imagine, the project is quite extensive and quite a bit of work has already taken place. The goal is to have HVAC units and duct work in place this summer. Due to lead times on some of the larger pieces of equipment required to increase our electrical capacity, we will likely not be able to run the new equipment until next school year.

The contractors are continuing their work outside of the school day to not interrupt student learning.

All full-day Fridays this year will have a delayed start. Please adhere to the following drop off/building entry times, as supervision will not be available until the times listed below:

Jr/Sr High

• Students may enter the building at 7:30 (earlier than previously communicated due to additional supervision being available)
• Instructional day begins: 8:20

Ryan

• Student drop off: 7:35
• Instructional day begins: 8:25

Anderson

• Student drop off: 7:50
• Instructional day begins: 8:30

Mid-year, you will have an opportunity to provide input about how we can maximize staff collaboration and professional development time while minimizing the inconvenience to our families. Please keep an eye out for that survey.

The Bronson Shell Station has designated and marked one pumping station (pumps 1 and 2) as "The Giving Pump" and will donate 1 cent/gallon of gas pumped on that pump back to Bronson Community Schools. This fundraiser runs until September 30th.

Thank you for your attention to the dress code that is outlined in the student handbook at the Jr/Sr High School. Principal Kris Crabill is working with our students to take a look at and draft recommendations to our Board of Education for updates to this language in the student handbook. It is our hope that they are able to review/approve those recommendations at their meeting on September 11th.

We appreciate your continued understanding and patience as we work through this process to make the necessary changes.
