What's Up At The Nest...
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
You know we are going to say it, we had another great week at the nest! We were lucky that much of the rain passed us by and we were able to have outdoor recess. As the temperatures begin to drop, please make sure to send your child to school with appropriate outerwear. We ask that all students have a coat or sweatshirt to bring outside when the temperatures drop below 60 degrees.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Erin, Julia, and the OMS staff
VOLUNTEERS
TARDY STUDENT DROPOFFS
We understand that sometimes a student is going to be a few minutes late to school. When that happens, please walk with your student to the front door. A parent or guardian must sign in any student arriving after 9:05 or leaving before 3:35.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
OMS IN-PERSON PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES FALL 2021
Thursday, October 21st & Friday, October 22nd, 2021
At Olive-Mary Stitt Elementary School, we value a strong partnership between home and school. Twice a year, time is provided for you to meet with your child’s teacher for Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Parents will be able to register for conferences online, using http://www.signupgenius.com. Directions and links to begin registering for conferences will be shared via email on Tuesday,10/12/21 at 10 am. The window for registering for fall conferences will be Tuesday, 10/12/21 at 10 am through Tuesday, 10/19/21 at 10 am.
The conferences are scheduled in 20-minute increments for 1st-5th grades and 15-minute increments for kindergarten. In order to be fair and equitable to all our OMS families, each family may register for only one evening conference per year. Families may choose to register for an evening conference in the fall or spring, not both.
4th/5th Grade Parents: The conference times are for meeting with your child’s homeroom teacher. If your child has a different teacher for math and you have specific math questions, please email him or her.
Please remember that these two days are set aside for the purpose of conferences, not as vacation days. If you will be out of town during the conference days, please consider contacting your child’s teacher to arrange a phone conference or Zoom meeting during a regular conference time slot.
We hope you take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your child's teacher on October 21st or October 22nd. Let's work together to make this a great school year for your child!
PACK AN EXTRA MASK
Please pack a second mask in your child's backpack. Throughout the school day, your child's mask may break, get wet or soiled, or start drooping. Or sometimes we forget a mask when getting out the door in the morning, and it's nice to have an extra one handy when coming into school. While we have extra masks in the office, some students are particular about what kind of mask they're wearing, and would prefer one from home.
NATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY
We’d like to invite all Olive students to join a route and walk with the Olive staff to celebrate
International Walk to School Day on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2021.
The aim of this day is to encourage physical activity, healthier habits, environmental concerns, and safe routes to school. We hope many OMS families will join us on this day as well as consider this a preferred option for getting to and from school, weather permitting, throughout the school year.
A phone and email blast will be sent out by 7:30 am, should we have to reschedule due to the weather. Our rain date has been set for Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Mid-Autumn Moon Festival
Last year, we were grateful to receive a 30+ book donation by One Book One World. This non-profit organization is committed to fostering more understanding of Asian American culture, history, and contributions to our country and community.
On 9/21 many Asian cultures celebrated the traditional Mid-Autumn Moon Festival about family unity. For many Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and etc., this is similar to an Asian Thanksgiving.
