This is not a random process; our goal is to create a balanced classroom of students who will thrive together in their learning during the upcoming school year. Each of our teachers are skilled and talented and your children will be in great hands!

VOSE ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
Dear Vose Families:
As we head into a new school year, we wanted to take the opportunity to review some of the necessary expectations for parents driving or walking to drop off and/or pick-up their children. Working together, the following procedures and expectations will help us reduce that potential frustration and safety concerns. We appreciate your cooperation, patience and cautious driving as we all work together to have a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal process at Vose.
This year in the afternoon at Dismissal, we will not be using the Family Pick-Up Numbers. Instead, students will be walked by their classroom teacher directly from their class to the school busses, and then to the Parent Walker Pick-Up area, and then to the Parent Car Pick-Up area. Classroom Teachers know their students and their dismissal plans the best so we feel this will be a safe and efficient process, without the complications of the Family Pick-Up Number process. However, this means that families will need to consistently communicate with the school office and/or their classroom teacher about any dismissal plan changes, such as a new person is picking up or a student should go to the car pick-up line that day.
If everyone follows these procedures in a positive and cooperative way, it goes well for us all. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and assistance!
Here are the expected procedures:
ARRIVAL/MORNING DROP-OFF:
The school doors will open at 7:35am, there will not be supervision outside so we ask parents to not drop off students before 7:35am.
Classroom doors open at 7:55am. Parents can escort 1st-5th grade students to class on the first day of school only. Parents can escort Kindergarten students to class through the first week of school through Friday, September 8th only. After that, staff will assist students if needed. Teachers are not available to parents/students prior to 7:55am unless a prior appointment is made and parents check in at the office. During this time, teachers are preparing for the important learning and activities for the day.
Students will proceed directly to the cafeteria to get breakfast and/or to move to their designated Morning Mix activity location. All meals (breakfast & lunch) are free for all students at Vose. Morning Mix activity locations will rotate among grade levels and options include the gym, music room, playground, etc.
Car Drop-Off: Parents/guardians will use the parking lot to the east of the building.
If you arrive before 7:35am, please DO NOT park in the actual parking spots in the parking lot. Instead, please pull along the curb, following the GREEN solid line in the diagram below, stopping at the RED dot. However, if you are planning to park and come into the school, you can of course use one of the parking spots.
PLEASE DO NOT drop off students until you have passed both crossing guards and the blue flagging in front of the building. It is not safe and causes cars to back up.
When driving in, cars will need to pull ahead further around the curve of the curb so that we can get more cars into our parking lot (GREEN solid line= where cars need to drive along the curb, and the ORANGE dot marks where the first car stops and unloads their students once cars are moving through the parking lot). Please follow the signs and staff waving you ahead. Students should walk to the playground gate by walking along the fence. Students should be ready to unload with their coats and shoes on, and backpack/lunch box within hands reach. Drivers should not stop and get out if at all avoidable. If you feel you need to get out to assist your students, please pull ahead past the ORANGE dot and park. Vose staff can help students and close car doors if needed. The quicker each family unloads and exits the parking lot, the more cars and students we can get off of Denney Road and the less congestion overall. Students will enter through the playground gate and then enter through the courtyard door into the cafeteria.
When pulling in and out along the curb, please use patience and caution as you look around and use your turn signals. The flow will move more quickly if we are all calm and patient and not speeding or cutting each other off.
Walkers: can enter in the front door or the back door by the playground.
Buses: will enter and exit in the bus-only area to the west side of the building. Pre-K and cars from families in our Specialized EGC program ONLY are allowed in this area. Students will enter through the door through our back hallway to the north of the building. Staff will be onsite to guide them through the correct door and through the hallway to the cafeteria so they can grab breakfast on the way to their classroom if needed.
Bikes/Scooters: bikes & scooters will need to be stored in the front of the school or the back of the school in the designated bike racks. Helmets can be taken to class for storage.
END OF SCHOOL DISMISSAL:
Car Pick-Up:
Access to parking in the parking lot will close from 2:10pm-2:50pm. Please DO NOT park in the actual parking spots in the parking lot. Instead, please pull along the curb, following the GREEN line in the diagram below. The first car in the first row should pull all the way to the RED dot. However, if you are planning to park and come into the school, you can of course use one of the parking spots.
There are two parallel car lines (GREEN parallel lines on map), which help alleviate backed-up traffic on SW Denney Road. Staff will direct you to which line to join. If you do park in the lot before 2:10pm, please be sure to park on the EAST row of the parking lot (the row farthest from the school building) so you do not get blocked in by the two parallel car lines on the WEST row of the parking lot.
The two parallel lines of cars will run along the curb closest to the front of the building, starting at the crosswalk near the school mailbox on the corner in the parking lot (see GREEN line on the map below). This helps alleviate the number of cars blocking SE Denney Road. The two parallel lines will follow the curb along the front of the school (on map= two parallel GREEN lines) and merge back into one line at the curve (merge happens at PINK dot on the map). Please follow the signs and instructions from Vose staff.
Parents should NOT park in the west Staff ONLY parking lot. All parent pick-up and drop-off should occur in the east parking lot, in front of the school. The west parking lot is ONLY for buses, day care, PreK and staff vehicles who have prior approval from the principal.
Students who are in Car Pick-Up or being picked up by a parent who is walking will be walked by their classroom teacher by the bus loading zone, then the parent walker pick-up area and then to the car pick-up area.
Parents: please wait in the designated area for your child. Please do not enter the building or walk to another area to take them out of their class line
Siblings: There will be an area at the front of the school where students will be able to wait for any sibling(s) before proceeding to their parents waiting in the Walker waiting area or the Car waiting area. Staff will direct students to the area. Parents should wait in the area designated for the grade level of their youngest child- please look for signs designating K, 1, 2-3 and 4-5 along the front of the building.
Bus Riders will be dismissed once their buses are ready for loading.
Walker Pick-Up: A family pick-up number is required for picking up a student to ensure safe matching of adult and student. Parents/guardians walking to pick-up their child will need to cross at the crosswalk at King Road and wait on the designated spots by the front of the building for their child to come to them.
Bikes/Scooters: bikes & scooters will need to be stored in the front of the school or the back of the school in the designated bike racks. Helmets can be taken to class for storage.
* Please call the office at 503-356-2430 for any changes in how a child will go home by 2:00pm so we have enough time to get the information to the student & teacher.

Arrival/Dismissal Parking Lot Map & Process: A flyer and description of our Arrival & Dismissal process is below that explains what areas of our parking lots are for buses only and where our parent drop-off and pick-up area is located. For the safety of everyone, please observe these procedures whenever you are at our school. If everyone follows these procedures in a positive and cooperative way, it goes well for us all.
If you are a returning family, there will be a few changes to our arrival and dismissal process:
* Students will now be allowed to enter the building starting at 7:35 am. There will not be supervision until then and we ask that parents do not drop students off until 7:35am.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this area to ensure safety for all. Parents can access the office for any questions or if they need assistance. Please be sure your child’s teacher knows how they will get home. We will NOT have Family Dismissal Numbers this year

When do families find out who their kindergarten teachers will be?
In an effort to create classes that have a balance between gender, age in relationship to peers, academic skills, social skills, special needs, student interaction and learning styles we will not officially assign teachers prior to the first full day of school on Friday, September 1st.
We have found that by waiting a few days we can prevent assigning students randomly, as our goal is to create a balanced classroom of students who will thrive together in their learning with their teacher all year. You will have an opportunity to meet our six kindergarten teachers on August 25th at our Meet & Greet Teachers & School Supply Drop-Off from 3:00pm-4:30pm.
For the first days of school your child will be assigned to a color group (i.e. red, blue, etc.) which will be listed in a letter you will receive in a letter in the mail the week of August 21. On the first few days of school, there will be staff and signs to guide you and your child to the classrooms and ensure they feel welcome and safe.
Please remember this is just for the first few days of school until we are able to more accurately place students into classrooms. Your family will receive your final teacher assignment through an email by Thursday, August 31st at 5pm. Starting on Friday, September 1st, your child will join their assigned teacher and you will have the opportunity to drop off your child as her/his class and meet the teacher. There will also be an opportunity to meet the teacher at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 7th from 5:00pm-6:30pm.
How do families ensure that their child will have a lunch to eat on the first day?
Students can bring lunches from home or purchase lunches in the school cafeteria. Staff will be available to assist kindergartners with purchasing lunches using their student numbers for the first few weeks of school. At Vose Elementary, ALL students receive FREE breakfasts and lunches, so families do not need to add money to their accounts. Please be clear with your student if you want them to get a school lunch or eat the lunch you made for them.
If kindergartners eat breakfast at school, when should they arrive? How do they get to class after breakfast?
Doors open at 7:35am, free breakfast & lunch available for ALL students. Staff assist students to get to their correct classroom by the time the tardy bell rings at 8:00am.
How do families apply for free or reduced-cost school meals?
If you believe your student qualifies for free or reduced-cost meals, please visit the Meal Benefits webpage to apply. Families who qualify can be eligible for other district, state and federal benefits and resources, even though students at Vose already all receive free breakfast/lunch benefits. For example, that is how families might qualify for federal relief monetary benefits, etc.
How are food allergies handled?
Parents should email our school nurse, yaasaman_seyedhossini@beaverton.k12.or.us for assistance.
How do families find out about bus routes? Do families need to register?
If a student qualifies for busing, families will receive a message from Transportation with their student’s route information via ParentSquare or email the week of August 21. Elementary students who live more than one mile from school qualify for busing; families do not need to register.
Do families need to buy school supplies for kindergartners?
We have included the school supply list items above. Families can also find it listed on our website if they want to print it- Click HERE or posted in the front office window at the school.
What will kindergartners need to bring to school on their first day?
A jacket if weather requires, backpack, lunch (if not eating school lunch, water bottle, and school supplies if they have not already dropped them off at the Meet & Greet event on August 25 from 3:00-4:30pm. Also, an extra change of clothes in plastic bag (underwear, pants, shirt, socks) is very helpful for unexpected accidents. PLEASE LABEL ALL ITEMS WITH CHILD'S NAME.
If families have other questions prior to the start of school, when will the school office be open to call and speak to a staff member?
Starting Wednesday, August 2nd our front office will be open from 8:00am-3:30pm, Monday - Friday.
For more back-to-school information, please visit the district’s website.
WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING YOU AND YOUR CHILD! ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR SUMMER!
