HOSA
HOSA Successful Blood drive on Friday, Feb 10, 2023
For those who don’t know what HOSA is, it stands for Health Occupation Students of America. This is a student-led group that focuses on everything medical and health care. Students attend three state-sponsored events between November and April and one International event in June. They have 78 subjects they can choose to compete in ranging from Biotechnology to Sports Medicine to Interviewing skills to Forensic science and everything in between. Other than attending the major events, students hone their leadership skills by hosting career panels, blood drives, and volunteering in the community.
On Friday, February 10, Blaine HOSA hosted a Red Cross blood drive. Our goal was for 30 people to donate. We had 57 people sign up and 29 were able to give a full donation. Each pint of blood donated can save the life of 3 people. Because of the donations we received, Blaine students saved 86 lives. Congratulations to all those who donated and thank you.
HOSA’s first competition of the year, Midwinter leadership conference, was canceled because of snow. Some students were able to compete virtually which stretched out into two more weeks. We had 15 students place in the top 10 and 3 students win first place. Arush Naik took first place in Medical Spelling and Medical Terminology and Dayana Cruz and Nawal Arafa took first as a team for Forensic Science. Here is the list of all the students who placed and their events. Please take a minute to view the list and congratulate all who participated.

Additionally, college credit can be awarded to these students who attend or transfer to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and select other post-secondary institutions within three years of graduation from Anoka-Hennepin.
Testing will occur at 3 p.m. on March 28 and/or March 30. The registration deadline is Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m. Cost is $30 per assessment, or $10 if the student receives free or reduced-price lunch. Tests are administered at the high school.

This year, graduation ceremonies will be held in the Maturi Pavilion, located at 1925 University Avenue SE, Minneapolis. In recent years, ceremonies were held at the 3M Arena at Mariucci, which is currently under renovation. Details are now available to assist families in the planning process.
The 2023 graduation ceremony for Blaine High School will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 4.
For detailed information about Blaine High School graduation, please visit the 2023 graduation webpage.
Be prepared by viewing Student Guidelines and Expectations for the graduation ceremony.
Parking
Family members planning to be in attendance at the graduation ceremonies are advised of parking options in a number of locations:
University Avenue ramp
Maroon parking lot, located off Oak Street East and Oak Street SE
Lot 37, located northwest of the 3M Arena at Mariucci, on 5th Street SE
4th Street Parking Ramp, located on 4th Street SE and 17th Avenue SE
Download the map of parking options or view it online on the University of Minnesota website. Pricing of parking spots vary by location.
Seating
While holding the graduation ceremonies at the University of Minnesota campus allows more family members to be in attendance, it is important to note that seating will be available on a first come, first served basis. Attendees who may have difficulty with stairs may want to seek out lower level seating upon arrival. Due to the temporary change of location, seating will be tighter than in past years.
