FALL BOOK FAIR
Get ready to Fall into a new book at the Fall 2023 Book Fair! During the week of October 23-27, 2023 the Smith Middle School Library is excited to bring the Scholastic Book Fair to our campus. Your student will have the opportunity to browse a wide variety of books and other items available for purchase with proceeds benefiting our campus library. Participation is optional. Please discuss your expectations for purchases with your student before their visit to the fair. Scholastic will be sending materials recommended for students in grades 6-8.
If your student purchases a book that does not meet your discussed expectations, please email blakely.smith@cfisd.net before Friday, October 27, 2023 to exchange or refund the item. Students who have been opted out of library services in the parent portal will not attend the book fair. If you have any questions about the book fair, please contact our campus librarian, and thank you for supporting our library.
Book Fair dates: October 23-27, 2023 from 7:55 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Payment options available will be cash, credit or eWallet. The set up for eWallet will be available on September 28, 2023. Unused eWallet funds will be converted to Scholastic money for students to spend online or at future sales or may be donated to Smith Middle School Library.
Check out our online fair homepage at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/smithmiddleschool for more information, to shop online, or to set up eWallet.
We look forward to seeing you at our Book Fair!

UNDERSTANDING STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND ATTENDANCE LETTERS
Attendance WARNING letters are automatically generated for a student who has been absent for 5 days in a class. Court WARNING letters are issued after 3 unexcused absences. Students are counted absent if they are not present in their class. It does not matter if it is marked as an excused or unexcused absence. An absence is an absence for class credit. If your student has fallen below 90% attendance, the grade level AP will meet with your student to develop a plan. If the absences are unexcused, the attendance officer will become involved. This is when we continue to closely monitor and access if the student needs to make up the seat time.
Please make sure you are checking the Home Access Center. Send your student to school when they are not ill. Schedule your travel during the calendar year when students are not in school. First instruction is so important.

ITEM DROP OFF
We strive for our students to be responsible to bring the necessary items to school daily. We will not accept classwork (homework/projects), Chromebooks, phones, and student ID's at the front desk.
Items that are accepted will be placed on the drop off shelf inside the front hallway. It is the student's responsibility to check the shelf for forgotten items such as P.E./Athletics uniform, music instrument, water bottle or lunchbox. We are unable to send notes to students to pick up items from the shelf. Thank you for your support.
Athletics/Game Day Items: Please make arrangements with your student to pick up items dropped off after school on game days. The front desk will not be able to contact students from the gym or locker room.
