Excerpt from the Handbook:
Students receiving an In School Suspension (ISS) and/or Out of School Suspension (OSS) assignment voids all exemptions.
Students who have the following grade at the end of the second grading period (1st semester) and fourth grading period (2nd semester) may be exempt for that class:
1. 92 with no more than three excused absences
2. 85 with no more than two excused absences
3. 80 with no more than one excused absence
*Doctor's notes do not count toward exam exemption absence totals.*
Students who receive an unexcused tardy twice to any class will void exemptions for that class. An unexcused absence to any class voids examination exemption for that class.

From the Nurse
Student Medication
All medications must be hand delivered by the parent or guardian to the nurse. This includes students who "Self-Administer" and/or "Self Carry" medications. The nurse must verify all orders before students are allowed to carry and self-administer their medications. Students are not allowed to carry medication on them while at school without proper physician orders giving permission to carry medication. Further information on medication guidelines are available in the 2023-2024 Student-Parent Handbook for grades 6-12 on pages 23-25.
Cold and Flu Season
With the cooler temperatures comes the increase of cold and flu cases. Remember: Per Athens City Schools policy, a student with a fever of 100.0 or greater should not come to school. A student at school with a fever of 100.0 or greater will be isolated from the classroom and the parent/guardian will be contacted. Students should not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
Students should not return to school until they have NOT been vomiting for 24 hours. Nurses will use their judgement when requesting students to be sent home from school for vomiting.
If a student brings cough drops or cough medicine to school, the student must have a Prescriber/Parent Authorization (PPA) completed and signed by a parent or guardian.

Clear Bag Policy
Athens City Schools is implementing a new Clear Bag Policy for all athletic events beginning Friday, September 1, 2023. This new security enhancement affects bags allowed in stadiums, gymnasiums, and fields. The implementation of this measure is to enhance public safety.
Permitted Bags
Athens City Schools encourages our Golden Eagle fans to not bring ANY type of bags inside ACS Athletic Facilities. However, the following bags are permitted:
Bags that are CLEAR plastic, vinyl, or PVC that do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12" (tote bags, fanny packs, cross-body bags, etc.)
One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziplock type bag or similar)
Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5" x 6.5" (approximately the size of a hand).
Please note that individuals are limited to (1) clear bag plus (1) small clutch. Fans are welcome to bring cameras, binoculars, and small seat cushions/pads, however, cases are not allowed. During inclement weather, blankets are permitted and must be tossed over the shoulder or arm.
Exceptions to this policy include medically necessary items, subject to inspection. Individuals with proper credentials from Athens City Schools or recognized media organizations may be granted an exemption for bags that do not meet these guidelines. However, bags will be subject to screening and inspection.
