Dual Enrollment Courses
Dual Enrollment allows high school students to take college courses and earn college credit in both academic and career subjects. Colleges and universities often grant college credit to students who successfully complete dual enrollment courses, which can reduce the number of semesters needed to earn a degree. This can save money on tuition, room and board, and student loans. Research shows that students who participate in dual enrollment are more likely to graduate high school, enroll in college, and earn a college degree.
Earning college credit while still in high school can be extremely rewarding, as it not only allows students to get a head start on their degrees, but also exposes them to the rigors of college courses. Additionally, these programs give students the opportunity to demonstrate their readiness for college life and academics to college admissions committees.
Westview's AVID Program
AVID offers rigorous academic support and strong connections to Westview and our community which is great for all students so we look to include as many students as possible.
Being part of AVID also takes hard work and perseverance so the most important criteria that we look for are determination and strong motivation to attend a 4-year college.
Other criteria we use to ensure AVID is a good fit for students include students who are 1st generation college-going, part of traditionally underserved populations, experiencing circumstances that make achievement difficult, and are academically viable.

College Bound

CTE Pathways
In order to become a pathway completer, a student must complete 20 credits in both a concentrator and capstone course OR two capstone courses in the same pathway. Students who achieve CTE Pathway Completion will receive a certificate, a notation on their transcript, and a special diploma seal for each pathway they complete. The following pathways are offered at Westview High School.

Taking a class outside of Westview?
Courses taken prior to the start of 9th grade will not count towards high school graduation and will not appear on the student's transcript.
If you are taking a foreign language course outside of Westview you will need to complete the Application and Authorization Form for Foreign Language Credit PRIOR to beginning the class. The form must be turned in to Mrs. Hartman is Westview's front office.
Prior to enrolling in a class outside of Westview, speak with our Registrar, Ms. Carroll (kcarroll@powayusd.com), to ensure it is on the PUSD approved list of outside courses.
Thinking of skipping a level of math or taking a summer math course outside PUSD?
Our recommendation is to not skip a level of math. PUSD does not currently have any approved Integrated Math classes through outside schools or programs that will be accepted for credit. If a student takes something over the summer it will not be on their PUSD transcript. More importantly, if a student signs up for the higher level next year and realizes it was not the correct placement, they are not guaranteed a spot in the previous level, as there may not be space available.
Specific to Integrated Math II: Aside from the mathematical instruction and curriculum reasons against skipping Integrated II, there is a college requirement component, as well. The UC system requires that students take a geometry-based math course as part of their 3-year math sequence. They consider Integrated Math II to be this course in the integrated sequence. We have been advising students against skipping Integrated Math II for this reason in particular. We do not want students to find that when they apply for college that they do not meet the UC requirements because they did not take Integrated II. More information can be found in the UC Counselor Reference Guide.

Want to attend Westview but live outside our boundaries?
Please visit the PUSD page for FAQs about Residency and Transfers
For families who live in the Poway Unified School District boundaries and would like to request their student attend a PUSD school other than their school of residence, PUSD starts accepting transfers for the 2025-2026 school year on February 1, 2025. Per PUSD Board Policy 5116.1(b), the window is open each year from February 1 through March 31 for the following school year.
For students who live outside the PUSD boundaries and would like to attend a PUSD school, PUSD will still accept transfers for the 2025-2026 starting on February 1, 2025. Please email them to transfers@powayusd.com.
Transfer decisions are made at the PUSD Attendance Office. Westview has no control, prior knowledge or influence over district decisions.
