CLEVELAND SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER FOR UPDATES & REMINDERS
Week of January 22, 2024
A note from the Head of School
Dear CSA Family and Friends,
We have made it to the start of the third marking period. Thank you to our family's for the continued support of your scholar and CSA. Please take this time to re-cellarbrate with your scholar on their academic progress and being on track for graduation. Early in their freshman year, a scholar can place themselves in position to not graduate on time simply by failing one class, or not doing well on the OST. Now is the time. Seniors will soon begin end of the year preparations for activities such as prom and graduation. There will be bi-weekly meetings with an appointed senior advisory council to ensure news and information is being passed along accordingly. We are now in the start of OST prep season as well as spring performances. It is important that scholars are at school daily to get the support they need to be successful.
Parent Teacher Conference: Thursday, February 8th 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Scholars will be dismissed at 12:00 pm. Sign-up lists will be available the week of January 21st.
NWEA Testing: This week scholar in ELA 1, ELA 2, Alg 1, and Geo will begin taking their winter NWEA assessment. Scholars will test in their regularly scheduled ELA and Math classes. Important reminders for testing:
- All scholars in the classes listed must complete the assessment.
- Scholars must arrive to school on time for testing.
- Scholars must bring their laptop and charger for testing each day.
- Teachers and admin will use the data to better support scholar growth
To better support and stay up to date with testing, the testing schedule is featured below.
FASFA Night for ALL SENIOR Families: I strongly recommend that all senior parents attend Monday, January 29. 3:15 pm - 7:00 pm.
Chinese New Year Lantern Festival: Experience our Enchanting Lantern Walk. Presented by CSA visual arts and chinese class. This is free and open to the public. Bring the whole family!
February 9th, 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM. You don't want to miss this!
Schoology parent access: It is highly encouraged that families use their parent access codes to review their scholar's classroom grades and performance. By using your Schoology parent access, you will be able to see your scholar's current grade, assignments completed, and assignments missed. This is a great tool for keeping up with your scholar's progress in class. Reach out to your scholar's teacher(s) if you have questions. Click to log in. Your scholar's teacher can provide the access code if you do not already have it. You need to have updated contact credentials in the Student Information System (SIS) to be able to be provided with your Schoology Parent account. Contact the school's main office to update your contact information.
If you have recently moved or changed contact information, please update the school with your new address by using the link below or calling the school main office at 216-838-9000
Yours in Education,
Ricardo Franklin Sr, Head of School

Mr. McCorvey; CSA CHOIR Director: Last week Mr. McCorvey led CSA's honor choir in singing the national anthem at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse before the Cavaliers taking on the Chicago Bulls. Monday nights performance was special as it served as CSA's community work for MLK Day.
Thank you CSA teachers and staff!

NWEA Testing Schedule
We are currently off track of our yearly attendance goal at 91%. Students who attend school consistently have a great chance of doing well in class. Please ensure your scholar attends school daily. Our chronic absenteeism rate is slowly rising. We have hit our goal (25%) and wish to stay lower than this rate. Families can help by making sure your scholar is coming to school on time each day.
