The Lower Moreland Field Hockey team is having a fantastic season thus far. Currently 7-1 in the Bicentennial Athletic League and 9-1 overall, the team, although small in numbers, has certainly proved to be a force on the field. In 10 total games, the girls have scored 48 goals on their opponents and allowed only 10. Top games so far include both Jenkintown games, where the Lions defeated the Drakes in overtime (4-3 the first game and 3-2 the second). A major contributor to those wins was senior captain Jamie Mayer, who scored both overtime goals. Currently, Jamie is the team’s leading scorer with 24 goals and 7 assists. Jamie is a midfielder who often controls the tempo of games with her stickwork, patience, and speed. Other notable scorers include senior captain Gianna Venafra and freshman Linda Tang who have scored 7 each, sophomore Joy Hong with 6 goals, freshman Taryn Mayer with 4, and freshman Kimmy Graham with 1. Taryn also holds the current season record for assists with 9. While the offense holds the stats,the defense, led by senior goalie Grace Laudenslager, senior captain Kasey Duffey, senior Stevie Goldman, and sophomore Leah Laudenslager, can be credited for allowing only 10 goals from opponents. G. Laudenslager maintains an 81% save percentage, making 43 saves to 53 shots. Led by a strong senior class, things are progressing well for the Lions as they look to gain home field advantage for playoffs which will begin in 4 weeks. For now, the Lions look to avenge their their only loss on the season against New Hope on Tuesday, October 3rd. Other games next week include an away games at Dock Monday night and Delco Thursday afternoon.
Senior Night for the girls will be on October 11th vs. Plumstead Christian on the turf at 7:00 PM.
