Students & Parents,

We have enjoyed a wonderful start to the 22-23 school year, and attribute that to the consistency of our staff and the cooperation of our students and families. Thank you for making this one of the best starts to the school year that we have experienced at GLOW!

If you haven't checked out our 22-23 Student/Parent Handbook we encourage you to do so; however, in the coming weeks, we will highlight information from the handbook in our weekly newsletter to ensure students and families understand and are in compliance with our guidelines and expectations for student success.

This week, we encourage you to reach the GLOW Attendance Policy. Student success begins with being on time and present at school. Please note that:

• Communication about your student's absence should be communicated in writing to your student's Leadership Advisory Teacher within 48 hours of their return to school.
• Excessive unexcused tardies and absences will be referred to the GLOW Attendance Council and can impact student grades, course credits, and ultimately grade level promotion.
• In the next couple of weeks we look forward to rolling out our new GLOW Safety Call, which will notify parents each day that their child is not present in school. We will let you know when that service is ready to begin.

Keep up to date with all things GLOW. Our school events, activites, and holidays will be posted on our online calendar.

PRO TIP: You can add this calendar to your own digital calendar by clicking on the +GoogleCalendar link at the bottom right corner of the calendar.

If they haven't already, students will be bringing home Beginning of Year forms that need to be completed and returned to school ASAP. Please be on the lookout for these forms and get them back to us as soon as possible. All forms should be turned in to Leadership Advisory Teachers.

Once we receive 100% of our Beginning of Year Forms from ALL students returned with parent signature, we will designate the next Friday as a Dress Down Day for students. More information about Dress Down Day expectations will be coming soon.

Please get those forms signed and returned ASAP!

Chromebook distribution has begun! Please be sure to your student has submitted a signed agreement (electronic signature option linked below) along with the $20 damage waiver fee to their Leadership Advisory teacher.

COVID diagnostic testing will be available to students at GLOW for the 2022-23 school year. Online registration must take place before testing can occur (Note: registration from last school year is no longer valid). Please register as soon as possible in anticipation of future testing throughout the school year. Use this link to register Coqui Health Registration for GLOW. We have added a new section to our weekly newsletter that we don't want you to miss! At the very bottom of this newsletter, under the "This Week at GLOW" photos, you will find links to some of the resources, documents, and policies that are most frequently accessed by students and parents. This section will remain active in each newsletter and will be updated, as needed throughout the year.

WILMA Magazine’s Women to Watch Leadership Initiative is launching WILMA’s Future Leaders program to introduce teens in the Wilmington region to career paths and successful women.

The program is open to current 11th graders (2022-23 school year) in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties. Twelve girls will be selected for the inaugural class. To apply, click HERE.

Teen Court Informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 30 in room 616 Lowe Hall (Science Lab). 8th graders interested should come at 11:35, and high school students at 12:15. Bring your questions and completed applications. For anyone who did not get an application, Mrs. Tucker will have them at the meeting. Join GLOW CREW Club! Calling all future designers, virtual artists, engineers, mathematicians, lawyers, environmentalists, and leaders! This seven week program for high school students meets every Tuesday beginning on September 13th. The Davis Center at Maides Park will be offering a Money Matters-Finance Education program for ages 17 and older next month. These three sessions will be offered at no charge by Corning Credit Union. Registration can be done in person at the Wilmington Parks & Rec Office located at 302 Willard St. or online.
