Now is the time of year to stop to reflect and give thanks for the good things in our lives. Especially now, in 2020, taking time to give thanks is helpful for us all. Here at Goodness Grows, we certainly give thanks for YOU. Without your interest in and support of our programs, we wouldn't be here! We thank you for all your kindness and your donations of time, supplies, skills, and funding. Without our generous supporters, we couldn't continue our work here. You truly do make a difference. Thank you!

Jungle Jams contain hot peppers - either jalapeno, habanero, or both.

Juicy Jams are our limited special fruit jam - no peppers here!

This fall has brought some big changes to GG. We had to say goodbye to our intern, Jade, as she and her family set off for a new home. Best wishes, Jade, and we miss you! We also welcomed new crew member Brista. Brista is enthusiastic, loves cats and crochet, and is a great addition to our team! We have also had new friend Thomas visit and are looking forward to another day with him this week, as he and his family decide if GG is the right job for him. Even amidst the struggles of life in a pandemic, plenty of good happens every day! We are so lucky to see so much of it here in North Lima!!

In this very strange year, full of the unexpected, we decided to try something unusual at GG. Hopefully this is a much more pleasant unusual than many of the events of 2020 have been!

In order to meet our fundraising goals of the year, since so many markets and shows have been canceled, we’re partnering with Beaver Creek Candle Company on a fundraiser. We thought that this was the perfect time of year to sell these locally made candles, as people start thinking about the holidays and gift buying. AND, Goodness Grows will receive 50% of the price of every candle sold! All of the money will be put right back into our programs.

Another exciting thing about partnering with the Beaver Creek Candle Company is that they work with adults with disabilities, and every candle purchase goes to supporting their workers and facilities. So, it is a win-win all around! If you would like to learn more about this amazing candle company, check out their website at bccandle.com.

If you or your friends/family would like to purchase from this fundraiser, please let us know no later than the morning of Monday, November 30. We will then place the order and have the candles here in 10-12 days, in time for Christmas.

We started Christmas early this year! Our friends at Reach for the STARS had an ornament competition and we made wood slice (from one of the trees on the property) ornaments for it. This competition is raising money for Columbiana County's Imagination Library and we were so glad to help! If you are in downtown Salem, stop by Reach for the STARS to check out our ornaments, vote on your favorite, and see all the amazing items that are there.

* Donating Items ~ We are always in need of items like basic jam making supplies such as regular 8oz. canning jars, lids, sugar, and white vinegar.

* Charitable Giving ~ As a small non-profit, Goodness Grows depends upon generous supporters who give monetary support. A contribution to Goodness Grows is tax-deductible, to the extent allowed by law. Your donations help us to continue our mission of working with people of all abilities.

Collecting for Second Harvest Food Bank

As we all know, COVID-19 has brought hardship to many families and individuals. The youth here decided they wanted to help by hosting a holiday food drive for Second Harvest, located in Youngstown. You can read below a little about Second Harvest to see why the young people felt it was a worthy organization:

Second Harvest Food Bank is a member food bank of Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. The Food Bank solicits, stores, and distributes food to hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties; and provides education and advocacy. They believe that no one should go hungry, and are dedicated to building a community that makes food accessible to all people.

The Food Bank is a storehouse for large quantities of donated food and USDA commodities that are distributed to 160 hunger-relief organizations and programs located throughout our tri-county area. These member agencies include church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs.

Organizations cannot require any fees for meals or pantry bags of food. All products must be distributed at no charge to recipients, with no suggested or implied donation amount or volunteer requirement. Participation or attendance in a religious service or ministry in order to receive food or a meal is not permitted.
