What is Apple Clasroom?

Classroom turns your iPad into a powerful teaching assistant, helping a teacher guide students through a lesson, see their progress, and keep them on track. With Classroom, you can easily launch the same app on every student device at the same time or launch a different app for each group of students. Classroom helps teachers focus on teaching so students can focus on learning.

You can do the following on any number of iPad devices at once:

Create a Group


  1. Tap the Group button in the Actions list.

  2. Enter a name for the group.

  3. Tap the names of students who will be members of this group.

    A checkbox appears next to the students’ names, indicating they’re going to be part of this group.

  4. Tap Done in the upper–right corner of the screen, then view the new group in the group list

Open a webpage or an app.

You can share a webpage with students directly from Safari.

  1. Tap Safari, tap the Share button, then tap More.

  2. Enable Classroom as a Share button, then click Done.

  3. Locate the webpage in Safari, tap the Share button, then tap the Classroom icon to share the webpage with your students.

Lock an app open on an iPad

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Tap All.

    • Tap a specific group.

    • Use the “Create a group” task in the Organize your class section to manually create a group.

  2. Tap the Open button in the Actions list, then do one of the following to open that app on the iPad devices of all selected students:

    • Scroll to locate the app in the list.

    • Swipe down in the app list to reveal the Search bar, then enter the name of the app.

  3. Turn on “Lock in app after opening.”

  4. Tap to open the app.

View a screen and lock the screen if the student is off task.
