Message From Principal Adam Mitchell
As we approach the middle of trimester two, things are busy at Sherwood High School!
Sherwood High School's 2022-2023 Graduation Rate is 97%!
Last week, the Oregon Department of Education released the graduation rates for all high school for the 2022-2023 school year. We are incredibly proud to announce that our rate is one of the highest in Oregon at 97%! This success speaks to the incredible effort, dedication, and support from our students, certified and classified staff, families, and community. It takes a large amount of people to help each student graduate that includes family, friends, elementary school staff, middle school staff, and district office staff. The post-pandemic work that has taken place to change and adapt our schools to today's students is amazing. Thank you all for everything you do for our students, our school, and our community!
Winter Conferences are now scheduled for next Thursday, February 8th, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. This is an excellent opportunity for parents and guardians to engage with teachers, discuss current progress in classes, and make connections with SHS staff. We hope to see you there!
Next week is Staff Appreciation Week in Sherwood School District. Thank you to all of our dedicated and hardworking teachers, instructional assistants, support staff, custodial team, kitchen staff, and the more than 140 members of the team that make Sherwood High School a wonderful place to be. Please continue to send in your "Celebrating Sherwood Staff" stories and nominations. Go Bowmen!
Course selection for the upcoming academic year will continue through Sunday February 4th. Please ensure that your student has completed this process if they are in grades 9-11 currently. Middle school course selection will launch in about two weeks.
Have a great weekend and Go Bowmen!
Mr. Mitchell

Confer's Corner:
Accountability and consequences play a pivotal role in the development of high school students by instilling a sense of responsibility and preparing them for the challenges of the real world. Firstly, accountability ensures that students understand the consequences of their actions, both positive and negative. This awareness encourages them to make thoughtful choices and consider the potential outcomes of their decisions. In high school, where students are exposed to a variety of social, academic, and extracurricular activities, accountability helps shape their character and reinforces the importance of ethical behavior.
Furthermore, accountability and consequences provide a valuable learning experience. When students are held accountable for their actions, they develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Facing consequences, whether they are positive reinforcement for achievements or corrective measures for mistakes, allows students to understand the cause-and-effect relationship between their behavior and the outcomes. This prepares them for the realities of life beyond high school, where accountability is a fundamental aspect of personal and professional success. Ultimately, the integration of accountability and consequences in high school education contributes to the holistic development of students, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of adulthood.
Erin's Law Information
In July of 2015, the Oregon Legislature passed SB 856, also known as Erin’s Law, which requires schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention instruction for kindergarten through grade 12. In order to meet the requirements in the law and school board policy, Sherwood High School will implement four sexual abuse prevention lessons each year. These lessons will be taught during Homeroom in order to provide this required instruction to all students. All high school teaching staff participate in professional training required by Erin’s Law before teaching these lessons.
The lessons will address the following topics and skills:
Topics Addressed:
Healthy/Unhealthy Relationships
Teen Dating Violence
Sexual Assault/Abuse
Skills Addressed:
Techniques to Recognize Sexual Abuse
Communication Skills to Establish Boundaries
Skills to Tell a Trusted Adult
The lessons will take place on Mondays and Fridays during homeroom between Monday, February, 5 and Friday, March 8, 2024.
In all areas, parents and guardians are a child’s first and most influential teachers. Families and schools share a common goal: we want students of all ages to be valued, respected, and safe in all aspects of their lives. We want to ensure that families have the opportunity to view the content before instruction takes place. Additional information on Erin’s Law and lesson content can be found on the high school’s website linked here. After you have reviewed the lesson content, you may choose to opt your student out of instruction by filling out the opt-out form: [English] [Espanol]
If you have further questions regarding all or part of the Erin’s Law lessons, please inquire with the high school administration.
