Irish Gifted Academy
Week of September 18th, 2022
From the Desk of Dr. Norfleet
IGA Family,
I hope your weekend is going well. This week we had some significant point gains added to our
houses for all the positive behaviors our students are exhibiting. We’ve had many lead changes
this week, in fact, I think at some point every house was in the lead. Keep up the great work
students!
We had a HUGE turnout this week for our grandparents celebration and book fair. It was great
to see so many families represented. Our students really enjoyed all the attention and so many
of our students picked up new books to spur on their love of reading.
IGA is a special place and it is so because of all the special people we can call family!
Let’s make next week even better! Go Dublin Irish!
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
What an extraordinary week at IGA! We began the week with a Book Fair and celebrating our GRANDparents. On Thursday, we celebrated National Dot Day with various literacy activities, creative projects, and wearing DOTS. I am always amazed by the talents of our students, staff, and parents. Teamwork makes the dream work. It is truly an honor to work with such an exceptional team at IGA. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who helped to make this a wonderful week at IGA.
This week, I would like to highlight Mrs. Fernandez’s first grade class. Students began their week by writing a special note to their grandparents and making a fingerprint heart magnet. Their mentor text for the week was Honey, Honey…Lion! By Jan Brett The students continued to learn about retelling stories and used text to learn how to retell the beginning, middle, and end of the story, while identifying the problem and solution. On National Dot Day, they practiced retelling The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. For the STEM activity, students used problem-solving skills, Dots candy, and toothpicks to build towers. The tallest tower was 11 inches tall! The week in math included learning doubles facts and strategy doubles + 1 to add. Students continued to explore map skills from continent, country, state, city, school, and classroom. What an EXCITING week for first grade!
Our Character Trait for the month of September is Cooperative.
Next week, we will celebrate DMS Homecoming with Spirit Week.
