Kindness Month
Encourage your child to share an act of kindness each day! Please note that we have theme days scheduled for next week!
Word Wall Words
Pictured above are next week’s words. A special thanks goes out to Zamora for coloring the page. Below, she is building word puzzles. This is an easy activity to set up to reinforce the words.
Literacy Workstations
Laila is hard at work writing Word Wall Words.
Word Work
During Word Work we asked Bessie-Grace what is her favorite thing to do in math. We did an interactive writing to write her reply. Students took turns writing on the large chart paper. We are learning about capitalization, punctuation, spelling rules, and letter formation.
On Thursday, Mrs. Drayton's 3rd grade class came to watch us do an interactive writing. They are reinforcing the same lessons we teach in their class!
Reading
As readers we are learning how to use Super Powers to decode words that are challenging. We also began reading partners during independent reading. The students begin by reading back-to-back, then switch to knee-to-knee. At this point, we can have book talk with our partners.
Shared Reading
What a nice surprise to find Noah’s name in our Shared Reading story!
Math
We are learning how to do subtraction problems. We give the students a word problem and they figure out the equation. For instance, “5 people went to the amusement park. 3 of them got on the rollercoaster. How many stayed behind?” Aaliyah did a fabulous job working the problem. Practice at home to reinforce this skill.
Math Workstations
Braelyn cut out numbers and then glued them in the appropriate location. The kiddos love to cut and paste!
Social Studies
February is Dental Health month. We were so fortunate to have Mrs. Heather from Palmetto Smiles visit us. We watch a cute video about how to care for our teeth. She brought the children goodie bags and reminded us to brush twice a day!
Technology
Untitled
The students were placed in groups of three. They each had a job for their group. One operated the iPad, one found specific Lego pieces, and one was the builder. The jobs rotated for each of three projects. They built robots that actually did something. In the video above, the Lego pieces spun like a fan. SUPER COOL!
Aladdin at The Marionette Theater
What a fun time we had at the Marionette Theatre. The kiddos loved the bus ride, the show, and getting to play with marionettes afterwards. A special thanks to Laila’s grandmother, Ms. Diane, for chaperoning us!
School Counselor Week
We love Mrs. Beckman! She brings us wonderful activities each month. All of the kindergarten classes signed this poster to let her know we love her!
February Challenge
With February beginning next week, we would like to challenge your child to learn how to tie their shoes.
Family Time
Last week, Bennett and his family went to Disney World. They had a great time and shared some pictures with the class. Bennett also brought yummy chocolate to share with the class! 😋
