Passez de Bonnes Vacances ! Enjoy Your Spring Break!

We wish the entire AIS community a fun, relaxing, and rewarding Spring Break. After 10 weeks of hard work, it is time to rest, reenergize, and reconnect with family and friends. After the Spring Break, there will be eleven more weeks of learning and growth, so be ready to hit the ground running when school recommences on Monday, March 27th!

Welcome to Ms. Sasha-Marie Marshall!

We are excited to welcome Ms. Sasha to the AIS community as our new substitute GS English teacher who will be stepping in during a medical leave. Ms. Sasha has worked as a kindergarten and elementary school teacher in both English and Spanish for over ten years. While she most recently taught kindergarten at IDEA Academy, she has also taught kindergarten and elementary school at different academies in Florida. Early in her career, she also taught in Spain, Italy, and South Korea. She is originally from Jamaica and in addition to speaking English and Spanish fluently, she speaks French and Italian at intermediate levels.

Welcome to Ms. Veronica Allen!

We are pleased to welcome Ms. Veronica Allen to the AIS community as an in-house instructional coach working with our Cycle 1 teaching team. We have been able to secure the expertise of Ms. Veronica through our temporary grant funding related to supporting schools during and after COVID. After spring break, she will be working on campus up to four days per week, sometimes directly in classrooms and other times directly with teachers and/or teaching teams. As a center for learning and growth, we are excited to be able to provide this fantastic opportunity to our amazing teaching teams! Ms. Veronica's mission in the school will continue through the end of the academic year. Her career in education started over thirty years ago as a reading coach and classroom teacher; about fifteen years ago, she began her mission to work in special education, supporting students of different ages with a wide range of needs from academic to behavioral. She holds multiple educator certifications, including early childhood through 6th grade special education, and she has led multiple conference presentations such as: Lean on Me: Strategies, Supports, and Accommodations; Including All Students; and The Making of a ParaPRO.

Everyone had an incredible week. Thank you very much to our Literacy Committee!

The week began with the opening of the AIS Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you to all of our volunteers; we could not have done it without your help.

Each of the Middle School English classes celebrated Literacy Week with the presentation of their semester studies.

Eighth-grade students spent a good deal of this semester immersed in a Mythology unit. Their efforts culminated in a mythology monologue pageant They kept their audience on the edge of their seats. No doubt they practiced a few times in front of their parents. It all paid off and was a huge success!

Seventh graders immersed themselves in the study of the American Civil War and created life-size character body maps based on Irene Hunt's novel Across Five Aprils. They are prominently displayed in the foyer.

Sixth graders learned a lot about Anne Frank and her family's lives through the lens of WWII atrocities. In the foyer, they created a replica of the secret annex where the Franks and their friends stayed in a futile attempt to avoid capture.

The middle school students also alternated reading to the elementary students. Of course, the younger students appreciated having their older classmates in the classroom. Our 6th grade service-learning class took turns reading books to the younger classes in AIS's three languages.

We concluded the celebration of Literacy Week with our Annual Character Parade. Again, we thank you all for coming out to celebrate and cheer our characters along.

"El Monstruo de Colores” Spanish show

Our CM1 students led by Ms. Marta put on a fantastic Monster Showcase in Spanish today for our other AIS students to enjoy. ¡Bravo! It is always a fun time when Ms. Marta leads her students in creative learning.

Basketball

Girls finished 3rd of the season and lost in the quarter final after a very tough game against City School. So proud of our Middle School Team who improved a lot through the competition. Thank you to the players, parents, friends, teachers, Ms. Esther and of course Coach Cedric!

CM2 field trip to School for the Blind

What a great day spent at the School for the Blind. CM2 toured the school and met students who are visually impaired. Our students, while blindfolded played games with the visually impaired to better share the experience. They learned more about the braille alphabet, the different machines used to write their names and words in braille. It was a very impressive trip.

Talent Show

The Talent Show is back! This will be an open event, so all parents and guardians are welcome. This event will take place from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 30 for CE1-CE2 and Friday, March 31 for CM1-8th grade.

2022-2023 Yearbook cover and page frame contest. Submit by Monday, May 1st

You can hand draw or use a digital format for your design and creations and use colors. There will be two folders at the reception desk: one for the yearbook cover and one for for the page frame. For details visit this link.

Playland Spirit Night - Friday, March 31st, 5pm - 10pm

What is Spirit Night? For those of you not familiar with Spirit Night it is a night of fun, fundraising and friendship. We are excited about this month's Spirit Night... Playland Skate Center. The whole family is invited to put on the skates and spend some carefree time with one another.
