News for August 18, 2023
Dear Brimhall Families,
Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year! I hope that this summer was everything it needed to be for your family. I know it was for me! From concerts, to hiking, to family roadtrips, it was everything I needed to feel refreshed and re-energized for this upcoming school year.
The 2023-24 school year will be an incredible year for our learners. We have nearly all our staff returning plus a few new faces due to our expanding Special Education program, full classrooms, a new reading curriculum, and the construction headaches (for the most part 😀) are behind us!
I am incredibly proud to be entering my third year as Brimhall Principal. It is such a privilege to lead this fantastic group of students, families, and educators. A privilege that I do not take for granted. My commitment to you is that I will work tirelessly to support each learner, each family, and each staff member to ensure we have an inclusive, academically challenging, and peaceful learning environment. Your partnership in that work is vital and I look forward to working in tandem with you in the months ahead.
Our staff return to the building on Monday, August 28 for a busy week of preparation. They will work many long hours to get classrooms ready and learning materials prepared to welcome students back in September. You can expect to hear from your classroom's teacher that week.
Please read through a few other pieces of information below. You can expect to hear from me again during the week of August 28th with further details to help us have a smooth start to the year.
Until then, I hope you enjoy these last few weeks of the summer!
Thank you,
Ryan
Classroom Assignments
Classroom assignments will be announced on Monday, August 28 via email. Your child's teacher will email you welcoming them to their classroom. If you do not receive an email by the end of that day, you can contact the school for assistance and determine that we have the correct email on file. We will also have class lists available at the Meet the Teacher Open House on Wednesday, August 28.
Meet the Teacher Open House
We will have open houses on Wednesday, August 30. The first open house is just for kindergarten families from 2:00 - 3:00. The second open house is for those families with students in grades 1-6 from 4:00-5:00.
The open house is designed to meet your child's teacher, drop off school supplies, connect with office staff, and gather information about transportation, the health office, nutrition services, and our Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
Don't forget to stop by the playground after you visit the classroom for Popsicles on the Playground sponsored by Brimhall PTA.
School Breakfasts and Lunches
Each student will receive a free breakfast and a free lunch this school year! This is because of a new law that Minnesota passed. Students will still need to enter their lunch PIN number so we can track how many meals are served each day.
You can find more information about this process at our district nutrition services website linked here.
Complete Educational Benefits Form
ALL families need to complete the educational benefits form. Even though each student receives a free meal this school year, we still need families to complete the form. It unlocks other benefits AND it provides additional funding for Brimhall.
This is a HUGE priority for us this year. We will work to ensure that 100% of our families complete the form. My apologies in advance for all the reminders and contacts you will receive this fall. Please complete it even if you think your family income exceeds any benefit. Each application received helps our school!
Directions are below:
The Application for Educational Benefits (formerly known as Free and Reduced) can be completed beginning early August at LINQ Connect Family Portal.
- Visit LINQ Connect Family Portal.
- Click on the green "Start Meal Application" button (log in not required).
- Follow the instructions to complete your online application.
An eligibility notice letter will arrive via mail or email within 10 business days.
Additional Information:
- One application needed per family each year.
- This form used to be called the “Free and Reduced Lunch” form
- The income thresholds are higher than in some programs, so many families are surprised to find they DO qualify.
