District 41 Educator of the Year
Ben Franklin 2nd Grade Teacher Mrs. Lynn Rumel
District 41 is pleased to announce that Benjamin Franklin Elementary School 2nd Grade Teacher Lynn Rumel has been named the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce District 41 Educator of the Year! Superintendent Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski surprised her with the news yesterday at school. See Mrs. Rumel react to the announcement along with her students in the video below!
Mrs. Rumel has worked in District 41 since 1990. Prior to coming to District 41 she taught at Gavin Central Elementary School for two years. She earned her bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University and her master’s degree from National Louis University.
Mrs. Rumel will be honored on March 1 at the Glen Ellyn Community Awards banquet.
Those who nominated her describe why she is deserving of this honor:
Mrs. Rumel is a gift to her students. She greets each child individually every morning and gives a hug to each student as they leave her room for the day. She truly cares about her students as people and individuals. I know that her warmth, empathy, and
dedication to her students is above and beyond what I could ever
hope for my child as a parent.
Mrs. Rumel is an outstanding teacher in our district. Not only does she help our students excel and grow, she acknowledges challenges and embraces them. Mrs. Rumel went out of her way to welcome my child to her classroom (remotely) on the first day of school. She
cares about her students, parents, and community. Mrs. Rumel helps us all remember that mistakes are a part of life and a way to grow!
A longtime teacher, Mrs. Rumel exemplifies the best in teaching. Her teaching style addresses the many ways students learn, she always models kindness in her classes, she supports and mentors fellow teachers, and she has often taken charge in school and
community volunteer efforts. I am always impressed by her students, who reflect the academic & interpersonal qualities she has instilled in them.
If you talk to anyone who has ever had a child go through Ben Franklin and had Lynn Rumel the resounding response is simply - “She's the best!” She is so caring, loving and and just an amazing teacher. She has helped our son get caught up after 1.5 years of elearning. She worked with us to understand how to best help our son. She guided us in the right direction to get him the help he needed.
“That’s ok, mistakes help me learn.” After struggling through a year of virtual learning, Lynn Rumel gave him the gift of a total reset. Her focus on integrating social/emotional learning with academics has undoubtedly changed his life and brought him back his love of school and learning. She is an AMAZING teacher - the best of the best. Her impact will be felt for the rest of our lives.
Mrs. Rumel has been a student and family favorite for years! Her teaching philosophy is situated in brain research: mistakes in the the learning process fire up the brain. Her students work hard and preserve to grow their brains. Each Friday she entertains students with her original ''Friday Song.'' She finds the ''special'' in all kids, loves them up, and works tirelessly to see them succeed.
Mrs Rumel is the most phenomenal teacher. She has so much passion and kindness as a 2nd grade teacher. She takes the time to educate these young minds. We are so grateful Mrs. Rumel came into our son’s life and teaching him so many skills that will last a lifetime.
Mrs. Rumel is my son’s 2nd grade teacher at Ben Franklin Elementary School. She is kind, thoughtful, patient, and exceptionally dedicated to the growth and well being of all children at BF. We are extremely grateful for her commitment and passion for helping every student she comes in contact with throughout her time teaching in D41.
She has never raised her voice in her class. Teaches children life skills such as meditating, builds their confidence by instilling that mistakes are good as they help you learn, creates a warm and welcoming environment for the children and is a wonderful light of hope for their families. Our child has never been more thrilled to go to school and is already sad for when this school year ends.
She is an incredible teacher, so inspiring and so encouraging. She cares about each and every one of her students like they are her own child. She is incredible and Ben Franklin is lucky to have her!
Congratulations to Mrs. Rumel!
