A LETTER FROM TIM LOVERSKY
The hallways and classrooms are clean and shiny, the staff is about to come back… and we are ready! Below are some notes that will help your child navigate our first few days, as well as give you some clear information. There is some excitement happening in our district with our new Superintendent and central office staff, as well as from getting back to normal after Covid.
This is a wonderful community and Wredling is a great school. Like all schools, we have our issues, but we have a highly dedicated staff who works hard to do their very best for your children.
I am looking forward to my best school year yet! Please join me in fully “belonging” to D303 and please join me in being a positive voice for our students and the teachers here at WMS!
Best-
Tim
Some Important Things to Note...👀
STUDENTS COMING IN ON MONDAY & TUESDAY
Here are the hours that we will be open for students to walk the building on Monday and Tuesday of next week before school starts:
Monday, August 8 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and then from 3 PM to 4:30 PM.
Tuesday, August 9 from 8 AM to 11:30 AM and then from 3 PM to 4 PM.
The building will be closed for an All District rally on Monday, August 8 from 7:30 AM to 9 AM.
THE START AND THE END OF THE DAY
- Start and End Times for the School Day:
Start Time: when kids should be seated and in class, ready to learn at 8:40 AM
End Time: 3:40 PM
Here is our Bell Schedule
We will be working this year to reduce the number of students who are tardy to school and class by assigning detentions when this becomes significant.
- Drop Off in the Morning: please carefully review this video so that you understand how our morning drop-off works. If everyone pulls up as far as possible, we speed up our drop-off significantly. Please note that there is no left turn from our lot towards Kirk Road- you may only exit towards Dunham Rd.
Pick Up in the Afternoon: Again, please watch this video. Students who will be picked up will be picked up by the Norris Center. The front lot is closed in the afternoon for bus use.
DURING THE DAY
- Students should simply bring a pen and paper, and their chromebook to class first period. Teachers will tell them what they need each period.
- For new students, Chromebooks should be handed out the first day.
- Cell phones and wireless ear buds (or the like) should be “off and away during the day and stored in lockers.” All students should have wired earbuds or headphones. Last year we had major issues with students wearing earbuds in class and in the hallway and they were unable to hear directions from staff. They also streamed music wirelessly from their phones rather than listening to instruction.
- Dress Code: We ask that students come to school dressed modestly. You can find our dress code on pages 5-6 of our student handbook. Some parents might be surprised that their child changes clothes at school. Please talk to your child about your expectations for their dress at school. We do teach our students that they might dress differently at school than they do at the mall than they do at a special dinner. Learning this skill is important.
- During the first 5 weeks of school, we will be continually reviewing the expectations for our students across all of their settings (ex. bus, hallway, classroom, cafeteria, etc.). We will share that information with you after the first week of school or so. We have high expectations for our students and we know they can live up to them!
THE CAFETERIA
There is no all-school free lunch this year. I would encourage families to send their children with lunch for the first few days until things get ironed out. Students will have a more traditional middle school lunch experience with more choices than we did during Covid.
If you would like to sign up for free/reduced lunch, click here to complete the form electronically. It does take a bit to process, the sooner you complete it the better!
Click here to learn all about our meal service plans.
If you choose to, please put some money on PushCoin for your child. That is how they pay for breakfast/lunches/snacks.
Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria and will be “Grab and Go” style.
THE BUS
We encourage students to take the bus. That will (typically) ensure that they arrive on time.
Please note that during the first weeks of school, buses run late! Please do not call school asking if they are late because they are going to be late. You will see that routes quickly develop a pattern and you will know what time buses arrive and depart.
We use a Google Doc that you can put on your phone and on your child’s phone to access what time our buses leave Wredling. This Google Doc can be opened and bookmarked on any web browser. Initially it will tell you what time buses depart WMS. As buses get into routines, we will only post what time late buses leave.
Students can access this by downloading Google Drive and Google Docs on their phones or devices, then logging into those with their D303 account. From there, they search for WMS PM Bus Arrival and they should find it and open it.
Encourage your students to LISTEN for their bus routes to be called. Most students miss their bus because they are talking to friends rather than listening or watching for bus routes.
We have an activity bus that picks up students at WMS and drops them at their nearest elementary school. The first day of our activity bus will be August 16. This allows students to participate in a wide variety of activities at WMS.
FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON AT WMS
Here is a list of all of our Team Leaders, Admin, and Student Support Team members who will support your child. Please keep this link handy for future reference.
You can also use our Staff directory located on the right hand side of the Wredling Website.
In general, if your child needs support, start with the teacher and then the team leader. If you still need help, move to the Assistant Principals (academics) or Student Support Coordinators (Deans) (behavioral).
If you email Tim Loversky (principal) he may forward your email to the right person to handle the issue. Please do not be offended when he does this.
