From Mr. Preddy, Our Principal
Have you checked your child's grades lately in SIS or through the parent portal? If not, you should stop now and check them. Your child knows how to check them so have them login in and show you now. The marking period ends Thursday, October 12th. Time is closing in for your child to make sure their grades are good to go. Remember, all students are required to complete 60 minutes per week in iReady and pass 2 lessons. There are similar requirements for math teachers for the Dreambox or iXL programs and you should check directly with your child's math teacher. Incompleteness of these activities have tremendous impacts on your child's grades. We will start Middle School Course Recovery soon afterschool and on weekends. Students with poor grades will be required to attend these programs. Spot check your child's grades throughout each marking period so there isn't a panic at the end to improve grades. We appreciate your partnership to make sure your child in on the right track. Let's make this year the year to excel!
Thank you,
~Mr. Preddy
Having Daily Conversations at home
Do you ever get the same answers when you ask about your child's day? "Good" Then when you push them for more details do you get "Bruh?" Below are some conversation starters to draw you into your child's life more actively. At a recent parent training, this was a topic of discussion, and we promised to share some conversation starters in the Tiger Ambush. Middle Schoolers are hard to talk to - there is no doubting that. However, the parent-child connection is more important than any other. Check out the conversation starters below.
Extra Credit Cards
Students, please remember that October 6th is the last day to take a Reading Counts quiz for extra credit this quarter. Your language arts teachers will give you your Extra Credit cards by October 9th, and the cards are due to your language arts, social studies, or science teachers by October 11th. Students who earn 60 or more Reading Counts points will have 5 points added to their average in all three subjects! Remember, points cannot be combined in more than one class and cannot be carried over to the 2nd quarter. Take your Reading Counts quizzes with your language arts teachers soon so you can earn this valuable extra credit!
Please speak with your ELA Teacher with questions.
Language Arts Academic Games
It's not too late to join the language arts Academic Games! We could use a few more students to ensure that we have a full team in order to compete. If your child likes learning about propaganda (future lawyer), or playing word games (future writer), they will love this competition. Our first game is at Santaluces High School on October 24th. Practices are every Thursday from 7:45 - 8:45 a.m. in Ms. Sall's room 179. Encourage your child to come join the fun!

NEW Daily Schedule this year
In years past, we have had White, Maroon, and Gold Days.... each of those days starting with a different period of the day. This year we are moving to a 6 period rotation. Each day will start with a new period. For example, the first day of school will start with the student's 1st period class. The second day of school will start with the student's 2nd period class and so on. On a "Second Period Day" the rotation will be 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1 and on a 4th Period Day, the rotation will be 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3. This gives every class the opportunity to start the day and end the day. It also helps with early releases for sports. Don't worry, we will help our students know what period we are starting the day with and help them throughout the day. Below is our rotational schedule for the year. Whatever number appears on that date, is the period we start with for that day.
