• This month, Gwinnett County Public Schools' "Think Before You Post" campaign is focusing on online safety and privacy. Let's face it... It's a crazy world out there-- literally and virtually! From the time, children are born, parents teach them how to be safe. "Don't talk to strangers." "Look both ways before crossing the street." However, sometimes, we don't share those same types of safety lessons when it comes to online activities. It is critical for kids to understand the importance of being safe and smart online and how their activities online can have an impact on their lives. So check out the resources below that highlight how to help kids navigate the online world, while minimizing the risks.

The AKS at Home webpage has been updated for 2nd semester with new dates and times of the Zoom sessions. All Zoom sessions will have a Spanish Interpreter. To enhance a secure online environment for our families, each session will require registration using the Zoom meeting link.

As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ family engagement initiative, our AKS at Home project provides Math and Literacy support, for grades K-5, to families so that they truly are partners in their children’s learning. Scheduled Zoom Meetings are available for you to attend so you may quickly learn how you can help your child in Math and Literacy. All meetings are recorded and tools are posted in case you can't make the live session. This support is available for families to access in the format that fits them and their schedule best.

We invite our families to take advantage of AKS at Home to gain access to scheduled virtual meetings or recorded sessions to best fit your schedule, and to the parent tip sheets (in English y en Español).

The Power of One

• The Gwinnett County Public Schools Community-Based Mentoring Program strives to be a true reflection of the “ Power of One” This means that we believe in the impact one caring adult mentor can have on a child's life. As a collective team with our school counselors, teachers, family members, and community; together, we all play a role in motivating and engaging students in and out of school. The involvement of a community mentor can make a meaningful, lasting connection.
  

  The Community-Based Mentoring program pairs caring adults with male and female students in grades 4 through 12 to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to help them become successful young adults, both in and out of school.
