Week of February 19th
Message from Principal Drew...
The ACT-WorkKeys test will be given on Thursday of this week. Students taking the test will complete their testing boot camp on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week prior to testing. We encourage all students that are testing to take their time and do their best.
Seniors, we are working on a make-up date for cap and gown photos. We hope to have that date solidified by next week. We will let you know the date as soon as it is set.
Congratulations to the Lady Pirates Basketball team on their championship during the regular season. The Lady Pirates will host a semi-final game on Wednesday of this week in the conference tournament. We will post game time and opponent information early next week. Be sure to pack the gym to support them on Wednesday.
FFA Week is this week and we will celebrate with FFA themed days at PCHS: Tuesday - Dress like a farmer day, Wednesday - Flannel Day, Thursday - Camo Day, Friday - FFA Day - dress in blue and gold or wear FFA attire. Prizes will be given each day to the best dressed on that day. The FFA will also be selling raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing throughout the week during all lunches. The proceeds from the drawing will go to a local charity.
This week at PCHS:
Monday - No School for Students, Optional teacher workday, Varsity boys play in the first round of the conference tournament
Tuesday - English 2 Check-in Test, SIT meeting at 3:15 PM, Battle of the books practice at 3:05 PM, Dress like a Farmer Day
Wednesday - 2nd round tournament games for the varsity basketball teams, Flannel Day, Math 1 and Math 3 Check-in tests
Thursday - WorkKeys test for selected students, FCA will meet in the gym, Camo Day
Friday - FFA Day, Basketball Tournament Championship in Tarboro, WorkKeys test for selected students, SAIL Day
Saturday - Color Guard Camp will be held at PCHS, Softball will have a home scrimmage game, Baseball will play at Gates County

Go Outside ‘GO’ Grants provide North Carolina students with opportunities for outdoor experiences -- to learn by doing.
North Carolina educators are encouraged to apply for grant funding for outdoor field trips, visiting programs, and educational structures.

The Golden Leaf Grant
The Golden LEAF Scholarship strives to increase economic opportunities for North Carolina’s rural and economically distressed areas by investing in students who commit to attend a North Carolina institution, graduate, and indicate an interest in returning to a rural community in the state. The student’s full application packet must be electronically completed and submitted by March 1, 2024.
Leslie Richardson Memorial Swan & Sparrow Scholarship

Thurgood Marshall Oratorical Contest
The Epsilon Chi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Elizabeth City, NC is hosting an oratorical scholarship contest, and is extending an invitation to any high school juniors or seniors who possess a passion for public speaking and a dedication to social justice.
