January Newsletter
Message from Mrs. Lockett
As we bid farewell to the past and step into the promise of a new year, I extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you. The start of a new year marks a moment of reflection and anticipationβa time to celebrate achievements, acknowledge challenges, and embrace opportunities for growth.
Our last day in 2023 brought much joy and happiness as we counted down the New Year in our own LES way! Our focus on character education continues this month as we celebrate kindness and service to others during the Great Kindness Challenge. We will even have a special PTO event with LESter called Hot Cocoa Sprinkled with Kindness. See below for more information on this and the many school and district events this month.
May the new year bring joy, prosperity, and countless opportunities for learning and growth for your families. Thank you for entrusting us with the education and development of your children. We look forward to a fulfilling and successful year ahead.
Sincerely,
Melissa N. Lockett

Off & Away During the Day!
As we begin this new year, I kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of no cell phone or smart watch use among our students while they are in school. While we understand the usefulness of technology, cell phone usage during school hours is not necessary and can significantly impact students' focus, academic performance, and social interactions.
If you choose to have your child keep a cell phone with them during school hours, please know that it must be silenced and in a child's bookbag all day. In addition, if your child has a smartwatch, this must not be used during the day for voice or text communication or recording. These rules are in accordance with district policy 5516.
We kindly ask for your cooperation in reinforcing this message at home, encouraging responsible cell phone usage and emphasizing the importance of following the school's guidelines. Should you need to communicate with your child during school hours, please reach out to the school's main office, and we will ensure that your message is promptly delivered to your child.
Your partnership in supporting our efforts to create a focused and conducive learning environment is highly appreciated. Together, we can ensure that our students receive the best possible educational experience.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Celebrating 100 Years at LES
During our 100th year celebration, we welcomed alumni and their family back to our beautiful little school. Marion Chester Smith, age 96, joined us with her daughter, Geraldine and nephew Billy (also an LES alum), to visit her alma mater. Ms. Smith shared some of her fond school memories with us and toured our building. Just recently, I found a picture of Marion when she attended Lawrenceville. During the time, Lawrenceville was not only an elementary school. A young Marion is pictured in the second row, second from the left. She was graduating the 8th grade. I believe the year was 1940. Thank you Marion for sharing your history with us. Your Lawrenceville family is grateful for you.
Family Engagement
One of the best ways to practice math is by playing games!
Having fun and learning can really happen. π Playing simple card games or dice games at home with your child will not only provide reinforcement of math concepts, it will help you determine how well your child understands these math concepts. Here are a variety of math games you may want to try with your child at home.
One of our favorite math sites-Greg Tang is amazing! Check out some of his math stories too!
