DISTRICT PROMISE
LHHS FALL SOCIAL
SENIOR MEETING
There will be a senior meeting this Friday, October 27th during advisory (9:28 - 10:00 AM). This meeting will provide seniors with important graduation information. All seniors (in-person and remote students) need to attend this meeting.
ASVAB ASSESSMENT
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) assessment will be administered on November 7, 2023 in the SHS library. This assessment can be used as a graduation pathway with a passing score. Please see Christy Thompson to signup for the assessment by November 2nd if you are interested.
Students will need to be in the SHS library by 7:40 a.m. The test is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Students can leave and return back to class after they have finished. All students need to bring their Chromebook (fully charged) to take the test.
If you have questions, please contact Christy Thompson (cthompson2@stanwood.wednet.edu).
PICTURE RETAKES - WEDNESDAY
This Wednesday is picture retakes for students who would like to have their picture retaken. Students who did not get their pictures taken in September will have their pictures taken on Wednesday as well.
Teaching Our Students the Hazards of E-Cigarettes
This Thursday, October 26th, students will begin a series of three lessons about the hazards of e-cigarettes. Lessons will take place during a modified schedule on Thursday, October 26th, November 2nd and November 9th.
Many teens are curious about e-cigarettes. In 2022, about 14.1% of high school students and 3.3% of middle school students reported using e-cigarettes. Nearly half of high school students have tried an e-cigarette in some areas.
Many teens believe that e-cigarettes are safe. In reality, e-cigarettes contain nicotine and toxins, some known to cause cancer. Nicotine is highly addictive, especially to a developing teen brain. What begins as experimentation can easily lead to a lifetime of nicotine addiction.
It does not take that long for young people to become addicted to nicotine because:
E-cigarettes provide nicotine in doses as large as, or larger than, regular cigarettes.
Children and youth become addicted to nicotine much faster than adults.
Nicotine has more harmful effects on the developing adolescent brain, making it worse for kids than adults.
Nicotine use as a teen raises the risk of using other substances and experiencing addiction later in life.

Replacement Levy
On Tuesday, the School Board approved the district to file Proposition 1 with our local election offices to run the Replacement Levy on the Feb. 13 ballot.
This Educational Programs & Operations levy is not a new tax. It is a replacement for our current levy, set to expire in 2024.
It bridges the gap between what the state provides and the people, programs, and services our school district has in place and relies on.
The replacement levy will help pay for staffing and operations, including sports, most safety and security personnel, and many other staffing costs, such as teaching, nursing, and counseling.
This replacement levy will continue to fund about 16% of our total budget. A levy failure will reduce staff, programs, and student services.

Welcome to WAGAP
We are proud to be partnering with the Washington Guaranteed Admissions Program (WAGAP) to offer students who are choosing college as their next step an incredible opportunity.
WAGAP can guarantee students admission to six four-year public universities in the state if they meet these two criteria:
Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
Complete or are on track to complete by fall 2024 all the College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs)
WAGAP is aimed toward students in 11th and 12th grades to help them know they’ll be admitted to a university even before they apply!
Participating in WAGAP is just one part of our District Strategic Plan, which includes an overarching goal that every student will graduate with the skills, experience, and readiness to pursue the future of their choosing and be equipped with the knowledge, abilities, and attributes essential for a purposeful, productive, and happy life.
Learn more about our partnership with WAGAP and find helpful links to forms and more resources under the WAGAP tab on our Teaching & Learning webpage.
Yearbooks are on sale now. You can pre-order yearbooks from our office for $25 each. Please call our office at 360-629-1340 if you have any questions.
REMINDER: Credit Retrieval - Every Tuesday After School
Afterschool Credit retrieval started last Tuesday and will continue every Tuesday throughout the school year. This is a great opportunity for students to retrieve credits to be on track for graduation. Below are the credits each grade level should have at this time of the year. For students who do not have the minimum number of credits listed below to be on track for graduation, please see Christy Thompson, counselor, to sign up for credit retrieval.
Credits students should have to be on track for graduation:
- 9th Grade - 9th grade students are not expected to have any credits at this time since they just started high school. At the end of 1st semester, 9th grade students will need to have 3 credits to be on track for graduation.
- 10th Grade - 6 credits
- 11th Grade - 12 credits
- 12th Grade - 18 credits
