This week we were able to celebrate Mrs. Wijnhamer as part of National School Counselor Week. Thank you to our students for the wonderful cards, flowers, and posters as well as our PTA for hosting a wonderful luncheon for Mrs. Wijnhamer. Additionally, our school began celebrations of Black History Month, PTA hosted our Principal/Counselor Coffee, and we had 100th day celebration with our big buddies. Last and certainly not least, we recognized Mrs. Fairburn as Tustin Connect 2024 Teacher of the Year.
Reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday in honor of President's Day.
This week's background features a fun activity students at our high school are doing to celebrate Black History Month, our big buddies celebrating the 100th day, Mrs. Wijnhamer getting some National Counselor Week love, and Mrs. Fairburn after her announcement as Tustin Connect's 2024 Teacher of the Year.

Principal's Message...
A big thank you to all of our parents that were able to attend our Principal/Counselor Coffee this Wednesday as well as all those who shared questions. I wanted to share my congratulations to our 2024 Tustin Connect Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Fairburn. We are so proud to have her represent Tustin Connect. If you see her, be sure to give her a high five/fist bump congratulations.
Now that we are in the 2nd semester of the school year, it's time to begin planning our end of year celebrations. We are looking to form a senior graduation comitttee as well as an 8th grade promotion committee. Please reach out to your teacher, Mr. Fineberg or call the office if you are able/willing to help make our end of year celebrations special.
Lastly, a big thank you to our PTA for all of their work and support for our Principal/Counselor Coffee, Counselor Week, and for purchasing a new BBQ for our school for our events. So cool!

✍️ Elementary Information ✍️

Trimester 2 Assessments: The second trimester ends on February 23rd. In the upcoming weeks, staff will be assessing student progress for the upcoming report cards. Please make sure your child attends all required class times so as not to miss these important assessments. If your child is sick, please contact us as soon as possible so we can arrange for a time to make up what was missed in class.
Weekly Schedule: There are no changes to the weekly schedule at the K-8 campus. Students will continue to attend on their assigned day(s) in-person as well as virtually along with the additional office hours time. If your student has scheduled 1:1 or small group time with the teacher or one of our aides, that time is required, and attendance is recorded.
School Readiness Parent Education Opportunities: Our School Readiness Department offers monthly meetings for parents on topics specific to our younger students. Please check out the flyers for topics that may be of interest to you or your family each month. English Spanish

HS Orientation for 8th Graders: It's time to start planning for high school. For those students attending Tustin Connect HS, Orientation will be in their classroom on Thursday, March 14th. For students attending one of our other TUSD high schools, orientation for students only is scheduled for Friday, March 15th from 8:20-9:30 AM at Columbus Tustin Middle School. Students will meet Mrs. W and attend the HS orientation meeting for the school they will be attending in the fall. Following the meeting, there will be a follow-up registration day on April 5th from 8-10 AM. **Parents, please visit the HS website for information about 8th-grade parent information nights for you to learn more about your child's HS.

TPSF Logo Contest: TPSF is sponsoring the Dino Dash 2024 logo contest for middle and high school students in TUSD. Students have an opportunity to design a logo for the 2024 Dino Dash. The winning logo will be selected by the Dino Dash Steering Committee.
- The winning artist will receive a $500 prize!
- The winning artist’s teacher/department will receive a $500 prize!
- The design is due to TPSF by February 28, 2024!

ATTENTION SENIOR Parents: We are looking for a few parents who might help us in celebrating our seniors. PTA is a wonderful supporter of our school and graduating seniors and we are looking for some parents who would be willing to work with us to celebrate our seniors. We are looking at support for our Senior Breakfast/Movie Day, Senior Swag Bags, and BBQ. Please reach out to any of our teachers, Mrs. Kerri in the office, or myself to get involved.
ATTENTION JUNIORS: This is a great opportunity for all current juniors to gain real-world, industry based experience through in-person, hybrid, or virtual intrenships. Check out the flyer to learn more about this great summer opportunity to earn credits and amazing experience.
Scholarships from Tustin Public Schools Foundation: The Tustin Public Schools Foundation administers sixteen scholarships and all applications may be found online with this link. All completed applications need to be submitted to TPSF by March 1.
The deadline for all applications for scholarships is March 1, 2024.
More Scholarships for Seniors: The Rotary Club of Tustin-Santa Ana- six scholarships for students attending two-year or four-year schools. Each scholarship is $500 or $1,000. The deadline to apply is 2/20 by 9:00PM. Application link

Hello Maverick Families,
It was a busy week for your PTA. Your donations were busy at work as we sponsored the Counselor Week Luncheon, Coffee With the Principal/Counselor, and purchased a grill for our campuses to use for student BBQs, and breakfasts. Additionally, we were able to calendar out the rest of the school year's Maverick Hangouts, HS BBQs and Finals Pizza Days. Stay tuned for more. We would love your support of our upcoming HS BBQ. Free Online Tutoring Available for K-12 Students
Brainfuse HelpNow is an on demand, anytime, anywhere eLearning platform available for all ages and levels. Last week, it was announced that every Californian can now access free online tutoring available 24/7 through a new initiative offering homework help in every K-12 subject and skill-building resources for K-12 and adult learners.
Real-time homework assistance can now be accessed 24/7 here and on the websites of any of the 1,130 local public libraries around the state – click on the “HelpNow” link to reach a one-on-one tutor. The pilot program led by the State Library offers assistance in Math, Language Arts, and other core K-12 subjects in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. There’s no age limit to who can use the service. Adult learners can also access writing assistance, citizenship resources and other tools.

Sora Sweet Reads in an annual summer reading program designed for schools to encourage students to keep reading all year long. "Check out" the free collection of simultaneous use juvenile and young adult ebooks (and select audiobooks).
Login to Sora to access these and many any other great ebooks and audiobooks all summer long through Clever, TUSD Student Portal or soraapp.com using your TUSD Google login and password.
