It's Not Easy Bein' Green
I try to always maintain a positive attitude. It isn’t always easy.
I’ve made a big push over the last several months to promote the green! Not just the color but what the color means to us.
Green is a community that values family, green is a community that cherishes its farms and farmers, green is people that enjoy the simple things in life.
Green is hard work and perseverance; green is grit and integrity.
Green is also the color of spring and new life!
But sometimes as Kermit said, ‘It’s not easy bein’ green.’
Green is also a large, rural but sparsely populated district. The seventh largest district by square miles of the Commonwealth’s 500. Green separates us geographically.
Green means many small towns each with their own cultures and outlying areas. Green means a population that is more diverse than most of us know.
Green means traveling distances for services and educational programs that are common to suburban and urban districts. Green sometimes means fewer opportunities.
Like most of you I wouldn’t change being green! We just must realize who we are and lean into those values that make us green and not allow the barriers to impact our greenness.
We all know the song, but do we all know how it ends?
‘…I am green, and it'll do fine,
it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.’
