Updates for Families from Mrs. Cooper
Updates from Mrs. Cooper
October 16th and 19th Remote Teaching and Learning
Friday, October 16th and Monday, October 19th, students and staff will be practicing for remote teaching and learning. All students and staff will be participating in the teaching and learning process remotely. This means NO STUDENTS WILL BE COMING TO PARSON HILLS ON OCTOBER 16TH AND 19TH for school. All students will be doing their work remotely on their iPad or Chrome Book at home. We will experience the same remote teaching and learning opportunity on Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th prior to Thanksgiving break in November.
If you are working and need child care for your children during these remote learning days, the After School Program will be available for those that have enrolled. Please see the link below for the After School Program:

Student Led Conferences
It was great to see students, teachers, and parents communicating about students' growth over the first 5 weeks of school during conferences. Even though it was all done via technology, I saw lots of smiles, work shared, and goals discussed. Thanks to all you parents/guardians for zooming or taking phone calls to participate in your child's conference. We've met with almost all our families, but 100% participation is expected, so if you have not had a conference for your child, please contact your child's teacher or call the office to schedule.
Updated Contact Information
Parents/Guardians it is critical we have a way to contact you. In the process of trying to reach out to families to schedule conferenences, we found many numbers not working and families not living at the address listed. If there were to be an emergency, for example, a Covid illness, we must be able to immediately get ahold of you. Please call the office and update your phone number any time it changes.
Covid Safety
Please remember to send your child to school wearing a mask each day.
If you come to the building for any reason, you'll need to be wearing a face mask as well.
Arrival
If bringing kids to school by car, please have your children ready to go when it's your turn at the drop off zone in front of the cafeteria. They need their backpack on, face mask on, and to be unbuckled, so they can hop right out to head in the building. Also, if coming by car or walking, be sure to have all your hugs and kisses done before reaching the drop off zone, so our line will keep moving smoothly and kids make it to class on time. Keeping our lines smooth helps us keep our social distance requirements which keeps us all healthy and safe.

Safety Updates
1. Send your children to school each day with a clean face mask. If you come to the building for any reason, you'll need to be wearing a face mask as well.
2. Students should not be here before 7:30 in the morning. If they are walking, don't let them leave too early. If you are driving them, and you arrive before 7:30, keep them in the car with you until staff members start letting students enter the building. Discuss with your child that we have now have white dots painted 6 feet apart on the concrete of our patio outside the cafeteria where students enter in the mornings. If they are waiting to enter, each family needs to space out according to the dots to keep 6 ft apart.
3. Your child/chilren must be checked into the office by an adult if they arrive after 7:45. Staff comes in at this time, and we don't want students unattended outside. Help us keep them safe by walking them into the office to check in after 7:45.

Blended Learning Online/At Home Days
2. On your child's online/at home learning days, you need to ensure they are completing their work. If their work for the day is not completed, it will be counted as an absence (absent) day.
3. We are using Lexia for reading and IXL for math to support our curriculum this year, and your child has access to both of these online programs at home. In Lexia, students work independently to develop critical reading and language skills through individualized learning pathways.
IXL Math provides adaptive questions that automatically adjust to the just-right level of difficulty for your child, so they can learn at their own pace. If your child says they do not have work, have them work in Lexia for reading and IXL for math.
