Greetings Bishop Woods Families,

This final Word from the Woods newsletter for the 2019-2020 school year celebrates the Class of 2020! Please enjoy the message from our superintendent, Dr. Iline Tracey, the slideshow of our Promotion Parade, which was held on Monday, June 15th, and video of all of our graduates. All links are below this letter.

Class of 2020...I am so PROUD of all of you! As I said a few weeks ago, you will always remain a part of the Bishop Woods family, and we are always here if you need us! I wish you the best of luck as you transition to high school...and I will continue to reach out to the high school principals to keep tabs on you! Parents...please continue to share your child's successes with us, as we love to hear how our alumni are doing. We will also invite you back to be a part of events that we need alumni representation for!

My greatest piece of advice as you enter high school is to get involved! Four years will fly by...make the best of your experience! Our high schools have so much to offer...no matter what your interest, there is a club, sport or committee you can join! Academics are just one part of the high school experience. Make sure yours is well-rounded! You have so much to contribute...be sure your voice is heard! Reach out to your administrators, teachers, and counselors to let them know who you are...and show your face often. Opportunity awaits...ensure that when an experience arises, YOU are considered a candidate! Great things are in store for you!

Promotion Parade Planning Committee....Thank you all for the hard work you put in to ensuring our students were celebrated!! It was a non-traditional graduation, but one we will always remember! Parents and family members were able to see their children receive their diplomas, students were recognized for their achievements and the weather was absolutely beautiful! Special thanks also to all of the staff members that came to cheer our graduates on! Our Bishop Woods family is an amazing TEAM!!

I'd also like to wish a Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures of our Bishop Woods family. We are appreciative for all that you do. Enjoy your special day!

Our main office will be closed the week of June 29th (change from original plan). Final report cards will be mailed home the week of June 22nd. You can also check your child's final grades on PowerSchool the last week of June.

I will continue to be in contact over the summer if new information arises. I will also be sending out monthly newsletter editions in July and August. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need me.

Lastly, please refer to our website for activities that families can take part in over the summer. We will update this information regularly.

Ms. Ford has been a New Haven Public School teacher for 35 years! She has been at Bishop Woods for the past 29 years. Congratulations & best of luck with your retirement Ms. Ford! We will miss you!

Ms. Smith has been a New Haven Public School teacher for 25 years, and has spent the last 2 years as our math coach at Bishop Woods School! We will miss you Ms. Smith! Congratulations & best of luck with your retirement!

Ms. Holahan has been a New Haven School Teacher for over 50 years! She recently served as our EL tutor, after retiring as an EL teacher. Ms. Holahan has had a great impact on so many students across the district! Ms. Holahah...enjoy your final retirement! You will be missed!

Congratulations to our English Language Learners that met proficiency targets to exit our EL program! We are so proud of you. Special thanks to our EL teachers, Ms. Holahan & Ms. Luqueno for all of their hard work to push these students this year! We also had many students within 5 points of exiting....I know you will get there next year!
