Welcome a Student Into Your Family!

Your most important contribution is far from monetary. It comes from your heart – a willingness to welcome this student to your country and into your home by making him or her feel like a true member of the family. Knowing you are building cross-cultural relationships one child at a time is the most important thing that you will receive in return!

You merely furnish meals when with the family and a bed of their own. Students will attend your local high school. ASSE students pay for their own airfare and provide their own medical and liability insurance. Spending money is the responsibility of the student and his or her natural parents. An Area Representative will be assigned while the student is here to provide support.

When you host a foreign exchange student, your entire family will discover a world of fun, full of culture, and enlightening adventure. Simply by sharing your home for as little as a semester or a school year, you will be giving an exceptional young person from another country the opportunity of a lifetime—to live with your family and experience the language, customs and culture of our country. In return, your exchange student will bring to your family a bit of his or her homeland. Students come from Europe, Asia/Pacific, the Middle East, the Americas and Africa.

By getting involved as an ASSE Area Representative, you will be making a difference in the world – one young person at a time. As an ASSE Area Representative, you’ll be that all-important point person for students placed in your area during their year abroad. Counselor, advocate and friend are just some of the roles you will play as you oversee the ASSE program in your area and help an international student get the most out of their year abroad.
