There are still several openings available for students and young adults between the ages of 14-24 for FREE Heart Screens! 2021-22 Eastview Planners are available for purchase in the Main Office. They are $5. Come and get yours and get organized!

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

The school district is hosting a Technology Support Night for Somali families on Monday, October 18th from 5-7pm at Apple Valley High School. We plan to set up Schoology, Seesaw and Infinite Campus accounts. We will have staff on hand to field all the questions. An interpreter will be available at this event.

Seniors, you can pick up your senior student ID cards at the West Entrance Security Office.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

The deadline for EVHS Advanced Placement exam payment is Wednesday, October 20th and is available on MyPaymentsPlus. Per EVHS policy, students enrolled in an Advanced Placement course are required to take the exam in that course. Seniors and Families,

A friendly reminder that if you are applying for any November 1st college deadlines and need official transcripts or letters of recommendation submitted, you must make these requests by Oct. 20th at the latest to ensure an on time delivery. Please see the instructions on how to do so and other updates below.

Get help with your college applications! Admission representatives from area colleges will be present, along with your counselors, to help you get started and/or finish your college applications, provide feedback on your personal statement/essay, check the status of your materials/applications, get started on FAFSA or scholarship applications, or if you don't know where to start-help advise on different postsecondary and career options.

Join us for an evening with Chris George, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at St. Olaf College. He will be presenting important information on paying for college, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and understanding college financial aid award packages (ex. grants, loans, scholarships, and work study).

2021-2022 Free Application Opportunities at Minnesota Colleges and Universities

As Minnesota high school students think about applying to college, application fees should not be a barrier. There are many opportunities for students to apply to MN institutions for free.

College Financial Aid information

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available October 1st. Please go to www.fafsa.gov to complete this application. Information to assist in completing the application are also available on the FAFSA website. All seniors attending ANY type of post-secondary institution should complete the FAFSA.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

VARSITY & JV SPORTS

VARSITY COMPETITION CHEER

The Varsity Competition Cheer Team had a busy, but fun competition weekend. On Saturday, the team competed in the Lakeville Invitational and took second place in the Game Day Non Tumble Division. And on Sunday, the team took 1st place in their Game Day Division at the Kasson-Mantorville competition. Great job, girls!!

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY 5th and 6th AT SSC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Eastview Girls Varsity Cross Country team finished 5th overall at the South Suburban Conference meet. They were led by Sophomore Emily Percival who placed 10th overall and earning All-Conference Honors. She was followed closely by 7th grader Kienna Loberg placing 11th. Hadley Knight and Sonja Olson finished in the top 40 earning All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The JV was led by medalists, Lidia Dahlman and Gracie Puit. The team finished 6th overall.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY 5th and 3rd AT SSC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The boys cross country team finished in 5th place at today’s varsity South Suburban Conference Championship race, and 3rd in the JV race. The JV runners were lead by sophomore Charles Mathews who spent the first 800m of the race maneuvering into a top 10 position. Finding himself in near the lead of the race, he ran bravely fending off several challenges from behind to set a 20 second personal best time and finish 8th overall. Following Charles were senior Alex Breimhurst in 13th who used a strong last mile to make up huge ground over the runners ahead of him. Following Alex was junior Thomas Adamson in 16th, senior Aiden Mekonnen in 24th, and junior Nate Buckley in 26th. Sophomore Burke Piller broke the 20 min barrier for the first time.

In the varsity race the Lightning were lead by senior standouts Hunter Dunne and Nate Getman. Dunne completed the 5,000m race in 3rd place with a time of 16:42 making him the 8th fastest Eastview runner on this course in school history. Dunne and Getman went out at the front of the chase pack through the first 1,000m, then between the 1k and 1600m mark they began to gap the pack behind them. Hunter was able to continue to put his foot down on the accelerator and open up a 20m lead on the pack while picking off a few of the runners who started at the lead of the race but could not hold onto the early pace. He was able to hold this lead fend off all challenges from behind with a show of strength and resiliency, he now goes into the section 3AAA race as the pre-race favorite. Getman was able to battle with chase pack just behind Dunne. He was able to fend off nearly all challengers from behind finishing just 5 seconds behind Dunne for 8th overall and an all-conference finish.

Senior Ethan Agoranos finished third for the Lightning today in a new PR of 18:09, while fellow seniors PJ Lasota, Max Leach rounded out the top 5 for the Lightning.

Thank you to all athletes who finished their season today for their hard work and strong character. A special thank you to this year’s seniors for helping us navigate the challenges of the past year and a half.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Boys volleyball has open gym again this Sunday night from 6-8 pm in the south gym. Come check it out if you want to learn more or you want to play next spring!

Wanted: Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

Looking for a fun way to earn some extra money and make an impact on lots of children in our community? The Community Education Aquatics Program is looking for those that are comfortable with their own swimming abilities to help teach swim lessons.
