MESSAGE FROM CROCKER PARENT GROUP PRESIDENT
As we head into the Winter Break, don’t forget that tomorrow (Friday) is a 12:00pm dismissal. Students will have a concert and class competition involving a fierce teacher vs. students dodgeball game wearing pajamas and ugly sweaters. So, fun! What a great way to end 2022 at Crocker!
Our Parent Executive Board has been busy making sure our school staff feels appreciated with the annual Staff Holiday Breakfast. This past Wednesday, we treated them to baked goods and a coffee cart in the library that was transformed into a sparkling white and gold winter wonderland. The staff also received handwritten cards of gratitude with a gift of $200 each. We wish them a very restful and relaxing winter break.
I feel so fortunate to be a part of our loving and supportive Crocker School community. It is remarkable how we can pull together in times of need. Thank you to all our families for the outpouring of love and generosity you have shown as we mourn the loss of our wonderful teacher Mr. Lau. He will be deeply missed and always in our hearts.
I would also like to extend our deepest thanks to Mary Ann Hasenstab and the West, North, and South School parent groups for the love and kindness they have given to the Crocker Staff in the last few weeks, providing them with lunches and breakfasts. This allowed for a much-needed time to be together. We are also thankful for the caring leadership of Superintendent Dr. Carlomagno, our Board Trustee members, and of course principal Keith Rocha, Lisa Ayer, Bonnie Slater, and the Crocker Staff.
I would like to wish you all a fantastic holiday and hope that you will find the time to rest and recharge. We have accomplished so much already this year like Building Belonging Week, 6,7, and 8th grade parent Networking meetings, 5th grade/incoming 6th grade tours, a community carnival, Socktober service learning, the Turkey Trot, 6th and 7th grade socials, report cards, school dances, etc. The list goes on! It feels good to be back into the swing of things and we are just getting started! We appreciate all the staff members and parent volunteers that helped make all these things happen. I can’t wait to see all that is to come for Crocker in 2023. Happy New Year Vikings!
Kind Regards,
Shelby Van Doren
CPG President
FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS
Thank you so very much for the tremendous outpouring of love and support for the Lau family and for our Crocker Middle School community following the unexpected death of Crocker Math teacher, Johnny Lau. In times of heartbreak, we have a community that finds a myriad of ways to provide support to those most in need.
A GoFundMe page has been created for those who would like to donate to Johnny’s family. Additionally, a Meal Train has been created by Johnny’s church group and is also available to our community.
Please keep the Lau family in your thoughts as they navigate this heartbreaking reality.

COVID TESTING
COVID test kits will be sent home with students before Winter break. We are highly recommending that all students COVID test prior to returning to school from Winter break. Please test your child either Monday night (1/2) or preferably Tuesday morning (1/3).
Parents should continue to use the HCSD COVID Reporting App to report that their child has tested positive or had a Close Contact exposure outside of school (i.e. household, or any exposure not from an HCSD School notification). After reporting a Case or Close Contact in the app, further questions can be emailed to HCSD School Nurse, Alexa Wilmarth at: awilmarth@hcsdk8.org.
As a reminder: If your child has been exposed to a person with COVID (15 minutes cumulative, within 6 feet, within a 24 hour period) it is best to COVID test 3-5 days after the exposure. Additional test kits are available at the school and district offices.
LUNCHMASTER Reminder
The LunchMaster January menu is online now. Please order your child's meals before the Winter Break to ensure they get what they want to eat. To help reduce food waste, please make sure to drop off your students early to allow them time to eat before school starts if you order breakfast.
TODAY: Math Kangaroo deadline
Crocker has registered as a private online test center again for Math Kangaroo (MK). All Crocker 6th-8th graders are welcome to participate in this friendly competition tackling interesting math problems designed to both engage and challenge students. The format is a 75-minute multiple-choice test with 30 questions. If your child(ren) would like to join, please register here by TODAY (12/15). After you sign in as a new or returning user, please click on the “By Invitation” tab and register for Crocker as your private test center using this invitation code: CAHILLS0001001@2023MK
The regular participation fee is $21. Late fee is $35 from 12/16 to 12/31. Students who register will take the test at Crocker on March 16, 2023 (Thursday) from 2:30pm to 3:45pm. Seats are limited to 30 so registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. We will distribute MK souvenirs (e.g., t-shirts) to all participants as well as prizes to all winners. Please note participation in MK is completely optional and this is not a school-sponsored event. If you have any questions, please email Michelle Lo (mom of Cameron Lo, 7th grade) at michellepan@gmail.com.
