News, Updates & Reminders:
* Staffing Update - It has been decided that we will not be replacing the open administrative/teacher assistant position here at the school this year. Nurse Kate has graciously accepted taking on this role in the office, while also conducting her nursing duties. Please contact Nurse Kate for all health & office inquiries moving forward. Thank you.
* This week we experienced our first weather delays of the year. In doing so, a robocall was sent each morning to notify families of the delay. If you did not receive the calls, please let me know and I will be happy to add your phone number or investigate our system to see why a call wasn't sent to you. It is our goal to always notify families by 6:00am, of any delay or cancellation. Please know that we also post it on our school's Facebook page and through an email.
* In case you missed it - Last Friday an email was sent to all families regarding the importance of regular school attendance. If you haven't read this email, it would be appreciated if you would do so. This email was in support of DESE's campaign to increase school attendance across the state. I am also attaching a copy of the letter that was sent by Supt. Franzoni and Commissioner Riley below. Here is an interesting article comparing the attendance rates for 22-23, for all school's in Western MA. Let's see if Emma Miller can improve our chronic absenteeism rate for this school year, because being at school is COOl! 😊
* Also, in an effort to support DESE's campaign to improve chronic absenteeism here at Emma Miller, we will be sending home a letter next week for all students that have had seven or more absences to this point in the school year. Now that we've reached the half way point, it seems fitting to provide this information to you, so you can make informed decisions regarding your child's attendance through the remainder of the year. Please know that these efforts are not to encourage children to come to school with an illness, or to reprimand, but rather, to bring this important issue to the forefront, so we can work together to improve our school's attendance. As always, we appreciate your support.
Planning Ahead:
* Chess Club will not meet on Wednesday, Jan. 31st, as noted on the calendar. We will meet on Thursday, Feb. 1st of that week instead. My apologies for the change in schedule.
PTG Updates & Reminders:
* The PTG meetings will be moved to the first Monday of the month at 5:00pm. These meetings will take place on the same day, before the School Committee meetings at 6:00pm. We hope that combining these meetings into one evening will allow the opportunity for more staff and family attendance. The next PTG & School Committee meeting will take place on Monday, Feb. 5th beginning at 5:00pm.
Health & Safety:
* Nurse Kate is working on vision and hearing screenings this week and next. If there are any concerns, you will receive a letter from her notifying you of the results. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Nurse Kate directly.
Have a great weekend.
