BCHS Jag PRIDE Newsletter

We are so excited to bring you the November/December edition of The BCHS Jag PRIDE Newsletter. BCHS is an incredible place where students are learning, growing, and challenging themselves each and every day. To better capture and celebrate the incredible things that happen BCHS while also keeping our community informed of up coming events and new information, we decided to create this newsletter! The BCHS Jag PRIDE Newsletter will be shared monthly with our families to foster communication, community, and Jaguar PRIDE!

Our next Jag PRIDE newsletter will be out early February 2023!

We are so grateful for our community, our students, our families, and our staff! Thank you for a wonderful fall 2022 semester! We are so proud of the accomplishments, learning, and growth of our students and we look forward to all of the amazing things they will learn and do this spring! Please remember that our spring semester begins bright and early at 7:30am on TUESDAY, January 3, 2023! Have a wonderful winter break! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

BCHS staff can nominate students that show Jaguar PRIDE for a BCHS Paw PRIDE award. These students have demonstrated the traits of PRIDE: being Prepared, having Respect, having Integrity, being Disciplined, and ensuring Everyone is united. Two winners are drawn each month and received a prize!

BCHS Families,

I am so proud to send this email to our BCHS community because the news is outstanding! BCHS has been named an “A” school by the Arizona Department of Education for the second time! Our first “A” was in 2019, and we have not received another letter grade until now due to the pandemic. We are thrilled that we continue to shine, especially with the new state assessment change to the ACT and ACT ASPIRE tests. Based on the letter grade points from the state, BCHS is ranked in the top 11% of Arizona high schools and #2 in DVUSD.

An A-rating means that BCHS has achieved distinguished performance on the statewide assessments, has high 4 year graduation rates, has students are on track to proficiency, and has overall performance is significantly higher than state average. We are so incredibly proud of our students, our staff, and our community for supporting the success of our students. While we continuously focus on supporting and growing our learners, it is a wonderful feeling to pause for a moment and to see our achievement as a school. Thank you so much for your support of BCHS and congratulations!

BCHS students and staff worked this year to recognize, honor, and celebrate our heroic Veteran's at BCHS and during the Anthem Veteran's Day Ceremony on November 11th. Jaguars wrote and created 2,277 thank you cards that were distributed to Veteran's at the Anthem Veteran's Day Ceremony. Mr. Donovan, who led the card project at BCHS, set a goal to increase the number of cards created from last year-- which was just over one thousand. BCHS came together and more than doubled the gratitude that went to our Veteran's! Outstanding job, Jags, and thank you to Mr. Donovan for leading the way!

BCHS Media Productions Students Media Productions put together an incredible multimedia presentation for the Anthem Veteran's Day ceremony. The coordinator of the event sent a beautiful thank you that stated: You cannot imagine how amazing the photo montages were with the songs. People were moved to tears over Battle Hymn and America. The Patriotic Melodies were fabulous and Stars and Stripes incredibly creative. Please, thank all those who participated. Due to their work, BCHS Media Productions is getting a $500 donation. Also, Colton Pilgrim and Scott Saball, who ran the event, will be awarded scholarships! Amazing work and congratulations Colton, Scott, our media productions students, and also to their teacher, Mrs. Johnstone.

Our BCHS Athletics & Football program honored our Veteran's at the last home game of the season. BCHS 2022 alumni, Private First-Class Israel Acosta, who was chosen to be the Platoon Guide and was an Honor graduate who was recognized for his outstanding leadership qualities, motivation and character - considered top graduate and demonstrated highest for future leadership responsibility. Private First Class Acosta shot expert and scored a perfect score in the physical and combat fitness test and was awarded company Ironman. presented the colors to honor the Marines and all military Veterans on the BCHS football field.

Students worked together to put together our fall musical, Grease, November 2nd through 5th. We are so proud of the team work, dedication, and talent our Jags put out on stage and behind the scenes! Congratulations!

BCHS Performing Arts students worked hard to bring outstanding performance to the BCHS stage in December! Students showed authentic learning as they entertained audiences of their parents, peers, and the community in dance, band, and choir. We are so proud of our students and teacher that work during the school day and beyond to bring excellence to the BC stage!

Mr. Vetnar's Economics class placed FIRST in the Arizona Council of Economic Education Fall Stock Market Game in the High School Division! Over 400 teams participated in the High School Fall SMG division. The winning team's portfolio had 29% return above the S & P 500 growth. This is fantastic! It is especially exciting to know that Boulder Creek has maintained a history or winning first place in the Fall Stock Market Game for the past 4 years! Congratulation to Mr. Vetnar and his students!
