Theory of Action Newsletter
January 2023
Welcome, Dallas ISD Principals!
Welcome back to the Theory of Action newsletter. We are excited to continue sharing with you the latest updates on supports and autonomies, as well as all other aspects of the Theory of Action.
We appreciate your feedback! Please share your thoughts and ideas via this feedback form. If you're interested in having information added to an upcoming newsletter, please submit a request here.
Read Up, Listen Up
Did you know that reading aloud for thirty minutes daily is proven to grow confidence and proficiency among student readers?
That's why Dallas ISO will be partnering second and third graders with volunteer listeners through the Read Up, Listen Up program. It's an excellent opportunity to encourage students who currently read below grade level while providing daily practice to improve reading and comprehension skills. We will be encouraging everyone to volunteer, from business professionals to community members to grandparents and retirees. No experience or instructional feedback is required; simply a listening ear.
To pair volunteers with students, we request that you complete the Read Up, Listen Up Form by submitting the following information.
- 2 Points of Contact at the Campus
- Languages Needed
If you know of anyone that would like to volunteer to be a listener, you can have them sign up by visiting www.dallasisd.org/ReadUp.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email Veena Armstrong (VARMSTRONG@dallasisd.org).
Field Trip Transportation
Dallas ISD will approve and facilitate transportation for campus-funded field trips as outlined in FMG (REGULATION). Accomplished and Breakthrough campuses may receive free or reduced price transportation to one field trip within the county boundaries on a district-owned bus.

Human Capital Management: Revised Spring Budget Timeline for 2023-2024
Human Capital Management is looking forward to a successful Spring Budget process and would like to ensure the annual meetings are an efficient, effective, and productive use of your time. The 2023- 2024 Spring Budget meetings will be in-person from February 20, 2023, through March 3, 2023. The intention of these meetings will be to sign off on the final allocations for your campus and to submit your excess employee documentation if applicable. Review and pre-work of campus allocations should be completed before attendance in these meetings.
Putting the "I" in Equity E-Learning
The Racial Equity Office will launch the district's professional development e-learning entitled, Putting the "/" in Equity, during the week of January 16, 2023. This course aims to increase your knowledge and build upon your understanding of what it means to possess an equity mindset. It will also present reflective practices for continuous growth and development.
The interactive module is a self-paced, one-hour module housed in Cornerstone and should be completed by February 24, 2023.
All district staff (professional staff, paraprofessional staff, support staff, central staff, new hires, part-time staff, etc.) are required to complete this module and should receive an email notification.

Local Accountability
Our Local Accountability System exudes the Dallas ISD philosophy of educating the Whole Child. With the impact of COVID-19, we have submitted our amended accountability metrics to the Texas Education Agency for final approval. The Department of Evaluation and Assessment will communicate all updates as soon as they become available. For more information regarding the LAS, visit dallasisd.org/LAS.
Effective in the current 2022-2023 school year, Dallas ISD campuses will use their overall State Ratings as their formal campus rating instead of the previous Local Accountability System (LAS) rating. The Local Accountability System will continue to be used to provide campuses with their Theory of Action Autonomies, however the State Rating will be used to provide Theory of Action Supports for campuses.
