Principal's Note
Dear Otter Families,
As many of you know, Meadow View is the most diverse elementary school in Sun Prairie, which means we have students from many corners of the world, representing 10+ languages and various ethnic backgrounds.
Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th to October 15th, is an incredibly exciting time for us to celebrate the diversity, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the USA. And you know what? It's a big deal for us at Meadow View Elementary School!
But why do we celebrate? Well, it's not just a party – it's a chance for all of us to learn about different cultures, share experiences, and appreciate the fantastic achievements of Hispanic individuals who've made their mark in all sorts of cool ways. Whether it's in the fields of art, science, literature, or standing up for what's right, there are amazing stories waiting to be discovered. By celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we're saying "¡Hola!" to diversity, inclusivity, and understanding. It's like a big family gathering where we learn from each other and grow closer. So, let's get ready to have a blast, learn loads, and strengthen our Meadow View community together!
One of our commitments is to honor all staff and students' cultural diversity and backgrounds. That's why we're so excited to invite you to our first Cultural Celebration on Thursday, September 28th at 8:00 AM (please see the attached invitation).
If you have Latino roots, this is your time to shine! Flaunt your Latino pride with flags, traditional outfits, hats, and accessories from your country. Let's make this celebration burst with color and culture! All our families, students, and community members are invited to this celebration.
We can't wait for you to join us in this beautiful celebration.
Un abrazo,
Mrs. Bell

Happy Costa Rica's Independence Day! Sep 15th
Today is a very special day for me as I celebrate my country's Independence Day. Costa Rica's Independence Day on September 15th is indeed a significant and festive occasion. It commemorates the day in 1821 when Costa Rica, along with several other Central American countries, gained independence from Spanish colonial rule. This day is celebrated with parades, music, dancing, traditional food, and other cultural events throughout the country. It's a time for Costa Ricans to come together and celebrate their nation's rich history and vibrant culture.
¡Feliz Día de la Independencia de Costa Rica!
Additionally, during Hispanic Heritage Month, several other countries also celebrate their independence.
- Mexico: Mexico celebrates its Independence Day on September 16th, commemorating the start of the Mexican War of Independence in 1810.
- Chile: Chile celebrates its Independence Day on September 18th, marking the day in 1810 when the Chilean people began their fight for independence from Spanish colonial rule.
- El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua: These Central American countries, including Costa Rica, also celebrate their Independence Day on September 15th, which marks the day in 1821 when they gained independence from Spanish colonial rule.
- Belize: Although not strictly a Hispanic country, Belize also celebrates its Independence Day on September 21st, marking its independence from British colonial rule in 1981.
- Venezuela: Venezuela's Independence Day is celebrated on July 5th, commemorating the day in 1811 when Venezuela declared its independence from Spanish colonial rule.
- Colombia: Colombia celebrates its Independence Day on July 20th, which marks the day in 1810 when Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, began its push for independence.
I am eternally grateful for our district celebrating the diversity of our community, allowing my daughter and me to embrace our culture wholeheartedly.
Have a great weekend and a fantastic start to the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration!
Cynthia

Social Emotional Learning Survey Information
“Our school is working hard to implement our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) practices. SEL includes a focus on emotional development, self-concept, and social competence. Some of our SEL strategies include community building, teaching SEL lessons, and including SEL standards and skills throughout our days.
Another part of our SEL work is a short, 8 question survey in grades 3-12. Students take this survey in the fall, winter, and spring to see how they're doing with things like making friends, setting goals for themselves, and understanding their emotions. Asking students these questions about themselves helps us understand where they need more instruction and support. Please reach out with any questions about this important work in our school!”

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures Starting September 11
Hello 4K Parents,
We extend our heartfelt thanks for joining us at our Open House on Wednesday. It was a pleasure meeting you, and we are thrilled to welcome your little otters next Monday.
In preparation for the upcoming school year, we have thoroughly reviewed safety guidelines with our 4K staff and Director, in alignment with the District's safety procedures for arrival and dismissal.
For the safety and well-being of all our students, it is imperative that:
**All parents must PARK in the designated parking lot** and proceed to **DOOR #1** to either drop off or pick up their 4K students. For safety reasons, children cannot walk to the car with their siblings, and older siblings cannot escort their 4K siblings to Ms. Ali. In summary, as caregivers, you are required to drop off and pick up your 4K students every day at Door 1.
**Parents are kindly requested to park in the designated parking lot** and refrain from using the drop-off and pick-up line.
Please note that this message is not for students who take the bus.
We understand that this may pose some inconvenience for some of you. However, please rest assured that as a school district, our foremost priority is the safety and security of every single one of our students.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a secure and nurturing environment for all our young learners.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Bell
