Safe & Sacred
Make sure your Safe & Sacred training is completed and up to date!
This training needs to be completed to continue to volunteer and coach with any youth in our parish and diocese. The training takes about 1-2 hours online. Go to http://www.dol-in.org/online-safe-environment-training to complete the training. Please let me know once you have finished and please don't forget to click the background link in the side tab after you complete the training slides.
You are a Catechist!
SMG CATECHIST FORMATION EXPERIENCE
Are you an SMG Youth Sports Coach, a PRE Teacher or Teacher’s Aide, a Confirmation Mentor, Youth Minister, or lead an SMG Adult Faith Formation Ministry? If so, you are a Catechist!
To prepare our hearts for the year ahead, every SMG Catechist is strongly encouraged to attend any one (1) of two remaining presentation dates below of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana’s Ablaze Catechist Formation experience, titled, “Encounter & Invitation.” Each presentation will be given in the SMG Youth Room:
Thursday, Nov. 9; 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 7; 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Join your fellow SMG Catechists and enjoy this time away to quiet our minds, still our hearts, and open ourselves to Jesus so that we can share Him better with those we coach and instruct. Snacks and drinks will be provided. For more, contact Steve Alic, s.alic@smgonline.org.
Spiritual Playbook
The goal of SMG coaches is to not only teach the nature of the game being played, but to instill a greater love and relationship with Christ for our kids.
The SMG Sports Ministry will highlight a new devotional each newsletter for our coaches to use before, during, & after practices. These team devotionals are there to act as a guide for the team to learn and grow from much like a playbook does. Below you can find more devotionals to use as you progress through the season. Please use these along with a prayer at your practices and games.
SMG Team Devotionals Highlight
Devotional 1
Scripture Focus: “Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.” Hosea 6:3
Theme: Knowing Your Head Coach
Just like basketball needs a great head coach, so does life. God is truly life’s best Head Coach. We want to encourage you to take time these coming weeks to know and better understand God, your Head Coach in life. Just as your coach during this league will help you to be the best player you can be, and help you better understand the sport you are participating in, God wants to help you be the best person you can be and help you better understand the game of life.
Time Out (reflection/discussion):
· Who is the best /favorite coach you’ve ever had, prior to this season? Why?
· What are some things your coach has taught you about your sport, or life?
· How can we learn to know God better and love Him more ((i.e. Bible reading, attending church and learning God’s Word, fellowship with other believers, prayer, etc.)?
Today’s Drill (application/prayer):
Coaches – Pray for a “successful” season, for safety, and that we can know God, our life’s Head Coach, better during this season.

Volunteer Opportunities (FISH Hours)
Coaching
Volunteering to coach our youth is an amazing way to give back to our parish and its future.
The time given by each of you is invaluable and the lasting marks you leave on each of those you coach is pivotal to their spiritual growth.

Mobile Serve
This is SMG’s volunteer hub for the Sports Ministry. Aside from reaching out to me directly, Mobile Serve is the best place to find volunteer opportunities. This is also where you will log your volunteer hours which will be turned into FISH hours. Don’t forget to put down the Sports Ministry or Sean Bird as your supervisor.
