DON'T FORGET TO ORDER YOUR CCS SPIRIT GEAR - STORE OPEN UNTIL OCTOBER 15TH
Don't forget to order CCS Spirit Gear while the store is OPEN! We have all kinds of great gear (t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, flannel PJ bottoms, a travel blanket) -- most of it featuring our colorful new logo. When you buy from our online shop, you not only help fund the PTO's grants for teachers, an emergency fund for local families, and much more -- you also support a local business. All the silk-screened items in the online store are done by hand here in Charlotte! The store will only be open until October 15th and will not re-open until the spring, so get your orders in today. Spirit gear makes a great holiday gift and is also a hit with grandparents. Please visit the store website at ccsspirtitwear2023.itemorder.com/shop/home

MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Charlotte Community,
Every week, we start our staff meetings with a few moments intentionally designed to bring us together. Think of it as an exercise of connection and belonging. We ask staff to share with each other important news, to celebrate personal successes and to express gratitude to a colleague. This tradition has created a web of relationships and a foundation of strength. Actions that may have gone unnoticed are brought to light. The support one member of the staff provided to another is celebrated. Milestones of our children, grandchildren and loved ones are shared to remind us of a commitment to balance between school and home. If you are able, take a moment to join in this tradition. Email someone at Charlotte Central School; to share, to celebrate, to acknowledge and to connect. This single gesture will be entwined with many others, creating the fabric of connection and belonging we all need.
With appreciation for all of you,
The CCS Administration

HAZING, HARRASSMENT AND BULLYING ROADSHOWS FOR 5TH - 8TH GRADES
At Charlotte Central School, we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment where every student in our community is treated with respect. As part of this mission, for the next few weeks, we will be providing middle level students with education focusing on a collaborative understanding of bullying and harassment. Our CVSD policy, F34: Policy on the Prevention of Harassment, Hazing and Bullying of Students is the structure our administrative team uses to respond to challenging situations between students. We proactively work with students to understand examples of the behavior, as well as strategies for responding to and reporting incidents of alleged misconduct. Our goal is to empower students with knowledge and tools for becoming allies and upstanders in order to build a strong and safe community at CCS and beyond.
ONLINE SAFETY AND DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
Online safety must be a priority for all of us. As caregivers, we ask that you monitor your child’s online footprint. Where do they spend their time when online? Are they talking with others and what information do they share about themselves online? Throughout the year, we will be teaching developmentally appropriate lessons to students that are highlighted on Common Sense Media.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND EDUCATION
School bus safety practice was completed by all of our classes on Thursday. Thank you to our Lead Driver, Dianna Fletcher, and Myra Timmins for leading the students in a discussion about safe and responsible ridership. All groups practiced evacuating the bus out the emergency exit door.
REQUEST FROM ERIKA NORRIS, CCS ART EDUCATOR:
Jewelry Making Club is one of many clubs offered during the middle school project block time on Wednesdays. Students have been working hard to create friendship bracelets, beaded necklaces, earrings, and many more wearable masterpieces. In order to support these ongoing creations we are looking for supplies, including but not limited to:
- Earring pins and wires
- Spring rings (of all sizes)
- Clasps for bracelets and necklaces
- Thin wire
- Thin stretchy cord
- Beads
If you have any of these materials that you are willing to part with (or others that you think would be fun for jewelry making) we would happily accept any and all contributions. It has been very fulfilling seeing and supporting students engaging in their personal interests, and from what I have seen, students are really enjoying this time as well! Thank you in advance for any and all jewelry making donations. 🙂

CONNECTING YOUTH SEEKS MENTORS
CVSD’s Connecting Youth (CY) seeks new community members to join our team of mentors for 5th - 12th grade students. This is a meaningful volunteer opportunity to be engaged with your community and truly make a difference in the life of one great kid!
- Mentors and mentee pairs meet weekly for about an hour. *We work with mentors' personal/professional schedules*
- School year commitment
- Mentor training and continual support provided by CVSD mentor coordinators.
- Middle school mentors have access to dedicated spaces for cooking, crafting, playing games and developing a friendship.
- High school mentors work alongside students to grow their skills and resilience, guide in goal-setting, and even explore possible career paths through new interests and experiences.
If you consider yourself fun, caring and trustworthy, your consistent presence can enhance a young person’s self-confidence, improve their academic performance, prevent substance use, and help them discover new passions. All while enriching your own life.

CVSD FALL FAMILY AND CAREGIVER SURVEY IS LIVE!
The CVSD Fall 2023 Panorama Fall 2023 Family Survey will stay open through next Friday 10/20/23. Please complete the survey, if you have not done so already. So far, twenty families from CCS have completed the survey. Please take a moment to give us your feedback.
CVSD values your feedback and we want to know what you think!
We are currently surveying our families and caregivers to gain insight into your perception of our school and district's effectiveness. To ensure that we continue to provide high-quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college, career, and the future, we would love to learn your opinion on the progress towards those ends.
To administer these surveys, we have partnered with Panorama Education to conduct our Fall 2023 Family Survey. Panorama safeguards your privacy, keeping your responses confidential and anonymous. The survey will be a valuable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and our district exemplary.
You may complete the survey online between September 22 and October 13 using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If you have children in more than one of our schools, we'd appreciate you sharing your thoughts about each separately. Please note: we are not certain that the survey saves if you have to step away while completing it. Please try to fill it out in one sitting.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us using Let's Talk and selecting the General Questions topic.
Thank you,
Rene Sanchez, Superintendent
Champlain Valley School District
