The Texan Star November 3rd
Prairie Trail Elementary School Newsletter
Message from the Principal's Desk
What a week it has been! There has been a bit more excitement this week as 3rd-5th Graders went on fields trips, Halloween, fundraiser pickup and our Texas Rangers! We had so much fun learning and playing. However, the late nights showed in the form of lots of extra tardies this week (insert principal side eye at parents). I gave some grace this week, because let's face it.... All of that and the Rangers winning the World Series all in one week?! Next week we crack back down so let's get to school on time. Remember we Fall Back 1 hour on the clocks this weekend!!
This week there is a lot of information. The next few weeks are very busy. Be sure to sign-up to work the Book Fair this week, fall spirit wear is on sale (great for Christmas presents), and Jingle Bell Jog t-shirts area also on sale. There is even more so be sure to scroll all the way to the end this week.
As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the front office, or email me at vaughnw@lisd.net.
Have a great weekend,
Wendi Vaughn
Principal

THIRD GRADE GIVES BACK
THIRD Grade! This is your time to shine! Each month weโre asking one or two grades to be good citizens and give back to the Prairie Trail community. For the month of November, weโre asking 3rd grade to help.
What can you do? There are 3 different ways you can help your Prairie Trail community this month:
1) SNACK DRIVE: November 6th - 10th. Help us restock the snack pantry by bringing in snacks like individually wrapped bags of pretzels, goldfish, applesauce pouches, nutrigrain bars, nut-free granola bars or raisins/craisins. You can also shop directly from the snack wish list at https://tinyurl.com/PTSNACK and select โPrairie Trail Elementaryโ to have it shipped directly
2) SERVICE SATURDAY (Saturday, November 4th): Join fellow 2nd & 3rd grade families at Service Saturday on November 4th from 8am-10am as we give back together and help clean up our Prairie Trail Community
3) CHIPOTLE SPIRIT NIGHT (Wednesday, November 8th, 4-8pm): Head on over to Chipotle and join the whole school for some yummy burritos and tasty quesadillas benefiting everyone at Prairie Trail.

Itโs almost time for our 28th Annual Jingle Bell Jog. The date is Friday, December 8th! Details will be shared in the coming weeks. Each grade level will jog during their designated time listed below. Please note, this may not be their regular Specials time. PENNY FRIDAYS - OCTOBER 27TH - DECEMBER 1ST
As we prepare to host our 28th Annual Jingle Bell Jog, we will have Penny Fridays every Friday now through December 1st. Penny Friday is our annual community service project to raise money for a Marcus Cross Country scholarship. The Marcus Cross Country team has celebrated our Jingle Bell Jog with us for more than 20 years.
Last year we raised over $2,000 and we would like to meet that goal again this year! Every Friday from now until December 1st we will be collecting change or dollar bills to support this community service project. The grade level that raises the most money by December 1st, will receive a choice day in P.E. after the Jingle Bell Jog on December 8th.
Kindergarten will not participate in the actual jog, but usually attend as spectators. We look forward to them joining us in the jog when they become 1st graders. They are welcome to participate in our Penny Friday community service event.
Thanks for your support!
Ms. Massa

Help Boost Kids' Safety, Privacy, and Security
When kids start to go online, whether they're playing multiplayer games, using educational apps, or just following their curiosity on Google, it's important that they understand the basics of online privacy and safety. With some general guidelines around what information is and isn't OK to share, and some help from parents when they're unsure, kids can have fun and learn a lot in the digital world.
