Bolt's Bulletin
February 2024
Principal Message
As we begin our second semester at Skyline it brings new opportunities for learning, growth, and achievement. Our dedicated teachers are committed to providing engaging lessons that inspire curiosity and a love for learning. We look forward to connecting with you in the coming weeks as our teachers prepare for our upcoming parent/teacher conferences.
Winter Assessments
Our students have completed their mid-year assessments and the results have indicated that our students are learning and growing, that's exciting news! The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) growth reports are just one data source we review to see how much our students have grown in the area of reading and math. Generally speaking, 50% of students nationally meet or exceed their growth goal. Below is our percentage of student growth and achievement by subject at our school. There are definite celebrations and of course areas of improvement.
SKYLINE Data:
Math: Growth: 78% Achievement: 65% (Fall) 73% (Winter)
ELA: Growth: 53% Achievement: 69% (Fall) 69% (Winter)

We look forward seeing you all on February 14-16 at Parent/Teacher Conferences so we can celebrate the success and growth of your child. Pick-A-Time will open February 5th-11th.

Need for information, have questions or want to learn more?
Sammy wishes his sister Sophie didn't do everything so perfectly. He can't stop seeing her successes as taking away from his own accomplishments. And when Sophie gets the bigger piece of pie-that is the last straw! That is, until Sammy's mother explains that there is always enough to go around.
Watch to see how Sammy thinks Win-Win!
Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win)
Understanding the Habit:
Having a "Win-Win" attitude means:
1. Seeing life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one.
2. Balancing courage for getting what you want with consideration for what others want.
3. Seeking successful, productive interactions by “filling others’ buckets/making deposits
on others’ emotional bank accounts”. In doing this, negative energy focused on understanding and resolving issues.
The Win/Win process has four steps:
-
See the problem from the other point of view, in terms of the needs and concerns of the other party.
-
Identify the key issues and concerns (not positions) involved.
-
Determine what results would make a fully acceptable solution.
-
Identify new options to achieve those results.
When approaching conflicts the "Win-Win" leader demonstrates:
-
Integrity: Stick with your true feelings, values, and commitments. “One of the most important ways to manifest integrity is to be loyal to those who are not present.” Stephen Covey
-
Maturity: Express your feelings by balancing courage and consideration. Yes, you can be empathetic but also confident and you can be considerate and sensitive but also brave!
Abundance Mentality:
- I believe there is plenty out there for everybody (ex. Options, success, opportunities, etc)
- I'm happy for the success of others.
- I treat everyone with equal respect.
- I find it easy to share recognition and credit.
- I have a deep inner sense of personal worth and security.
“It’s amazing how much can be accomplished if no one cares who gets the credit.”

Did you know, less than 30% of kids ages 2 to 19 met high healthy heart standards according to American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 metric: diet, physical activity, cigarette smoking, body mass index, total cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose and quality of sleep, according to a study completed in 2022
February is Heart Health month and now is a great time to talk with your kids about why it's important to maintain good heart health. Here are some topics to talk about:
- Schedule family time for physical activity. Weather permitting, go outdoors for a walk, or backyard games. Indoor activities can actually incorporate active or interactive sports video game.
- Plan a weekly menu and prep your meals. Encourage kids to help with meal planning and even grocery shopping. Have supplies on hand for healthy snacks or make your own–https://www.heart.org/en/recipes/granola-bars.
- Simplify your family’s schedule. Try organizing your activities and see what you can do without so you’ll have more time for the things that matter.
- Set a regular bed time – and wake-up time. Develop bedtime routines to wind down after a busy day. Encourage kids of all ages kids to develop their own rituals for a good night’s sleep.
- Live by example. Be a role model for healthy behaviors. Set goals and take baby steps. Teaching your kids about heart health now will help them live longer, healthier lives for their own future!
