What a Wonderful First Week!
Hello PLE Community!
We've had an incredible start to the school year, and I couldn't be prouder of our amazing students! Their boundless enthusiasm and flexibility have shone brightly, even as we navigate the absence of a playground structure. It's a testament to the resilience and joy that children bring to our school community. I'm deeply impressed by the spirit of our students. Their positive energy is a reminder of the wonderful journey we have ahead.
I want to extend my warmest welcome to all families, and I'm excited to embark on this transformative educational journey with you. Together, we'll continue to create an environment where our students can thrive and grow. Here's to a fantastic school year filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories!

Kids these days are....
If you are anything like me, you hear many people saying disparaging things about "kids these days." Things like, "kids these days only know how to read online," or "kids these days don't know how to play outside." At PLE our teachers are flipping the script about kids these days. Zoom in on the photo above or visit our display in the main office to see all that we are celebrating about kids these days!
Right Now News
Drop off and Pick up
We are continually looking for how to make everyone's drop off and pick up experience more peaceful, workable, and safe. If you are able to park and walk to pick up your child after school, that is recommended as it will ease with the number of cars waiting for room in the drop off lane.
Please remember that our students on safety patrol are children who are doing their very best to contribute. Please drive in ways that keep them safe as well.
EVENTS this WEEK
Ice Cream Social
All PLE phamilies (Preschool-5th grade) are invited to a fun Ice Cream Social in the gym on Thursday, September 14th from 5:30-7pm hosted by the Phantom Lake PTA! Our amazing PLE teachers will be scooping delicious ice cream and dolling out toppings. We will have non-dairy and sugar-free options for those with dietary restrictions.
Families will also have the chance to visit a variety of table booths to learn about the PTA as well as various after-school enrichment programs and childcare available at PLE this year.
Coffee with your Principals!
Everyone is invited to our first Coffee with the Principals! Please choose one that fits best with your schedule:)
- Thursday, 9/14 8:30-9:15am

September Virtue of the Month and SEL Lesson
This year we will be learning about and practicing a new virtue each month as a school. We have also pre-scheduled all of our Social and Emotional Learning lessons to correlate with our virtue. We will let you know what the virtue and lesson are for each month.
September Virtue = Curiosity
September 2nd Step = Growth Mindset and Goal Setting
To be curious is to explore and discover, to take an interest in a new experience. Curiosity is looking to trying and experiencing new things, and learning through those new adventures and experiences. Curious people want to learn and try new things, and to grow in their understanding. Let's all practice curiosity this year!
Meet our Family Engagement Specialist!
HAPPY NEW SCHOOL YEAR
About Me: My name is Judy Takahashi-Hunsberger. I am the district LEAD Program Family Engagement Specialist assisting other Family Engagement Specialists and collaborating with Pre-K Family Engagement Specialists to deliver Family Engagement resources and events based on individual school community needs. I also serve as the Family Engagement Specialist Support for Phantom Lake, Tillicum, Spiritridge, Big Picture, Digital Discovery, Medina, and Clyde Hill. In addition, I work closely with the McKinney Vento Coordinator, counselors (school and MHAT), social workers, psychologists, and nurses to help when a family/ school needs support/resources. We collaborate to find resources from city, county, state, federal, and outside agencies to support all our families. I also support Truancy Board to ensure that families are supported with resources needed when attendance is a concern. I am looking forward to working with our school staff and families. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me if you need any clarifications or concerns. I am available to attend meetings to support our school staff and families in finding the best resources to benefit the families we serve. It is my honor to serve the BSD community, and I look forward to working alongside all of you.
