From the Principal...Steve Morrill
This past Tuesday evening was Thompson’s Virtual Curriculum Night. Ms. Legenski, Ms. Vander Woude, and Ms. Chuipek provided the structure and leadership for our teachers to create such an important venue for parents to access information regarding their middle school learners. Kudos to the three of them for creating such a great platform for both in-house and remote families to refer to throughout the year. If you were unable to view this information on Tuesday, you can now find it on the Thompson webpage.
Supporting your child’s school and sitting down with him/her to view this curriculum night information sends a strong message to your child about the importance of school. As parents, we have the greatest influence on our children. Being engaged in school functions, whether in person or virtually, sends children the strong message that their education is important and significant. Thanks for supporting your student’s learning at Thompson Middle School.
Today is our district’s first School Improvement Day of the year. Although students are not in the building, our Thunder staff is busy honing our skills. Much of our teacher learning is focusing on instructional modules designed to support both remote and in-person facilitation and affectively, we will continue our work with social emotional learning objectives for both students and staff.
Please enjoy the gift of time these extra long weekends provide. Enjoy your families!

Middle School Student Schedules
Parents and Guardians: Please note that, as some families and students are choosing to move from in-person to remote learning, we must continue to make adjustments to student schedules, which in most cases may also include a change in teacher. When class sections become too small or large based on these adjustments, your child’s schedule may also need to be adjusted. Although our preference is to keep consistency in our scheduling, please understand that it has become necessary to accommodate the choices families are making for their children. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to balance all of the different constraints we are managing during the pandemic.

School Fees & Food Waivers for 2020-2021

A family can only qualify for a free waiver of fees; there are no reduced fees. The application is on the district website. Questions regarding school fee waivers - Sharon Wlezien at 331-228-5417
FOOD WAIVER: Only one application needs to be completed for each household. Please include ALL family members that live in the household (even those not attending a school). Applications are posted on the district website. In addition, paper applications are available at the schools and the Administration Building as in years past. Families directly certified by the State of Illinois for the 2020-2021 school year will receive FREE FOOD and their FEES will be WAIVED. If your family is qualified by the state, you do NOT need to complete either application. You should have received an approval letter in the mail in July.
